Schlenkerla Helles is brewed with fine Bavarian aroma hops from the area around the city of Nürnberg. It's lagered in century old caves underneath the historic Schlenkerla brewery and maltings. Schlenkerla Helles is boiled in the same copper kettles and bottom fermented by the same yeast as the historic Schlenkerla Smokebeer. Its subtle smokiness without using smoke malt makes Helles Schlenkerla Lager a unique representative of the classic lager beer style Bavarian Helles.

Pours clear golden color with one finger of dense white head, good retention. Clean. Malty, bready and lightly smoky aroma. Bready, grassy, lightly herbal and subltle smoky flavor. Light body, crisp, dry finish.

500ml bottle. Clear golden with a thin white head. Aroma of bready malts, light grassy, subtle smoke. Taste of light sweet bready malts, slightly grassy and herbal, mild smokey notes a bit stronger than the aroma, light bitterness. Crisp, clean. Light-medium bodied.
Such a nice Helles, I even would’ve liked a bit more smoke.

Appearance: pale rustic copper color with a super subtle transparency about it; a two and a half fingers of white foamy head dissipated at a nice pace to leave some messy lace
Aroma: substantial smokiness sat atop some biscuity/bready maltiness and blended with some light grassy hops; notes of glazed bacon and sweet ham come out with more warmth
Flavor: takes all the prior mentioned aromas to make the beer smoky sweet and meaty; mild aftertaste of ham and sweet smoke
Texture: light to medium bodied; slight sessionability about it; pretty smooth along my tongue; finishes crisp and semi-dry
Overall: another great beer by Aecht Schlenkerla that I would love to have again.

From Heinrich 3000, thanks Alex for this bottle, sharing this original helles, on the train, from Stuttgart, back to Zürich. A nice experience, subtle note of smocked malt, grainy, malty, little touch of bacon and beech, good with a Bavarian cheeee, 01.03.23

500ml bottle somehow never rated. Such a stellar beer. As smoky as most Rauchbiers in the US, though certainly milder than the other Schlenkerla line up. Absolutely perfect mouthfeel. Delicious, perfect hop balance. Always a pleasure to drink.
