From Heinrich 3000, thanks Alex for this bottle, sharing this original helles, on the train, from Stuttgart, back to Zürich. A nice experience, subtle note of smocked malt, grainy, malty, little touch of bacon and beech, good with a Bavarian cheeee, 01.03.23

500ml bottle somehow never rated. Such a stellar beer. As smoky as most Rauchbiers in the US, though certainly milder than the other Schlenkerla line up. Absolutely perfect mouthfeel. Delicious, perfect hop balance. Always a pleasure to drink.

Draft. Golden pale w/medium head. Grass, malts, etc. Not as smoky as I expected. Ok but I prefer the Spezial helles.

Dorada limpia de bonita espuma blanca. Aroma ligera pero agradablemente ahumado. En boca es suave, ligera, bebible. Equilibrada con base malteada, ligero amargor seco y ese toque ahumado que diferencia esta de otras helles. Bien hecha.

* Ok. Subtle in everything. *

Bottle. Clear gold color with a small head. Aroma is grains with a slight smoke smell. Taste is grains with a slight smoked almond aftertaste.

Bottle at home. Clear, deep golden with thick, long lasting head. Nose is smoky, and sweet grainy. Its taste is initially smoke-y, then it quickly turns to sweet grainy, that is more similar to that of the usual of the style. Closes with short sweet finish, has light body and average carbo. An easy-to-drink beer that is full of flavour and the subtle, but detectable smoke gives it a nice twist (it’s hard to believe that there are no smoked malts in this one). Not an overcomplicated beer, but certainly a very well made.

smoked? well i guess there are slight smoke notes in the aroma, and a touch in the flavour but i’m getting more bready sweet maltiness than smoke in the flavour and aroma. Really an excellent helles, some nice hops round it out, not sure i would consider this a smoked.
