Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is roasted malt, moderate peat, ash, darkest of chocolates, charred wood and coal. Quite a bitter roasty flavour with a little sweetness in there and some salty notes. Body is medium. Nicely strong bitter flavour with a potent ash peat coal aroma, very enjoyable if you dig these flavours.

20/4/2019. Bottle. Pours thick black with an average sized creamy tan coloured head. Aroma of ash, smoke, liquorice, chocolate, roasted malt and toffee. Light sweetness, heavy bitterness. Full-bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Deep roasted charcoal and peat finish. Good, but the bitterness was just a little too dominant.

0.33 l bottle from ’Speciaalbierpakket.nl’, best before December 2018. Sweetish, malty, quite roasty and slightly peaty aroma of dark chocolate, mocca, seaweed, licorice and some tar. Just slightly sweetish, quite bitter, malty, very roasty and a bit peaty taste of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, seaweed, tar and ash, followed by a relatively long, rather roasty-bitter, earthy and quite salty finish. Medium to full body, almost oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Really interesting, unexpectedly full-bodied for that abv, very intense flavours, a bit strange maybe, but definitely enjoyable and a nice experiment.

Bottle @ home. Black colour with a small to medium sized brown head. Smells roasty, chocolate, slightly boozy, nice. Tastes sweet, chocolate, roasty, slightly liquorice. Also slightly salty but I probably only notice it since it’s in the name. Nice beer! Full body, tastes like an 8 or 9% abv beer while only having 5.5.

Tap at Arendsnest, 18th May 17. Pours black with a neat tan head. Aroma is peat, chocolate, coffee. Taste is roasted malts, liquorice, very dry, slight saltiness, hint of peat. Very drying in the palate, bitter, chewy. Very interesting and enjoyable.

Tap @ Arendsnest, sample size glass. Pitch black color. Dense brown head, also frothy, good retention. Aroma’s: heavily roasted, mocha/coffee, maybe just a hint of salt. Retronasal it’s hard roast, light sourish (coffee?), bitterish. Flavor is roasted, tar, bitterish, dry. Under medium bodied. Finishes dry, roasted, above moderate bitter. I didn’t get much/any salt, which I didn’t regret.

Bottle from het Biermoment, L20161124 BB 29-12-2018, 33 cl sample. Dark color, medium rocky dark brown head. Aroma of dark rye bread, slight salty bacon and some peat and roast. Plus some weird aroma, I cant put my finger on, but it aint good. Tar perhaps, or manure. Big bold roasty bitterness, almost tartish from the amount of roasted malts, slight salty peat. Weird, bit unbalanced, or overdone on the maltiness. I like malty beers, but I dont like to be tortured by pure roast. After Gordon, we have another Dutch roast. Seeing other peoples ratings, we have several volunteers :-P
