Following century old recipes all malts made at the Schlenkerla brewery are dried by wood fire. While for the classic Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier traditionally beech has been ? and still is ? used, the malt for Schlenkerla Oak Smoke is kilned with oak wood. The resulting Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in Schlenkerla Oak Smoke is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers for Christmas.

16 oz can from jcos, 10/26/24. Amber-light brown color with a beige head. Malty / smokey. A little peat. Some grains and wood. Lots of flavor and well made. Few, if any, do it better. 8/4/9/4/17

Notes from May 2011 Bottle from Whole Foods Bowery. The bbq binge continues. Anyone else add liquid smoke to their Cheerios? :D Orange/amber, mostly clear, with a tiny amount of noticeable sediment floating about. Good couple inches of cream-colored lather-ish foam. Smells of pepper & grease, with a backend of oats, bread crust, & bitter greens. I picked up a little bit of awkward acidity. Peppery pastrami(not hammy), buttery oak, gentle grain sweetness, mild herbal/rind bitterness at the end. Gets pretty sweet as it warms. Strong carbonation, thicker then a standard amber, buttery mouthfeel. Frothy. Not as good as their standard lineup I felt, but still a pretty good meaty smoke.

O:6.49 V:4.93 G:7.33 C:3.29 G:13.25 T:35.29

Poured from the tap @ Isle de Garde. Clear amber with huge off white head. Light smokiness, mild bready malt, decent.

Magnifica

Sweet, malty, roasty, smokey. Campfire and bacon, caramelly malts. Ok.
