In anticipation of Dia De Los Muertos and inspired by the profound flavors of Mexican Chocolate, The Lost Abbey will be releasing it’s newest and very limited celebratory creation; My Black Parade.
Continuing The Lost Abbey’s trend in being inspired by worldly religious-based stories, My Black Parade tells the story of unrequited love being remembered each year on Dia De Los Muertos. A crowd of believers, that grows with each procession, making a yearly pilgrimage to an unmarked grave, waiting for true love to show up.
A blended Bourbon barrel-aged Strong Ale with cocoa nibs, vanilla bean and spices, My Black Parade will be limited to only 60 cases with all inventory sold online through The Lost Abbey Website.
Pouring darker than a moonless night, My Black Parade begins with a deep bouquet of rich chocolate and layered hints of cinnamon and oak. Huge flavors of cocoa on the palate with notes of vanilla, bourbon, and tobacco, finishing with crisp bite from the smoked chili’s and cardamom.

Tap. Almost black with a coat of tan head. Aroma of chocolate fudge, whisky with prominent vanilla, oak. Silky, lowish but appropriate carbonation. Slightly nutty, lots of (not particularly distinguished) chocolate. Whisky notes are subtler than suggested by aroma. A bit boozy but not really hot. Cardamon, slight alfoil as bitterness creeps up at the end. Good flavours with clever balance but not really distinctive.

37,5 cl bottle (12%) @ olio
Aroma has strong bourbon tones, vanilla and alcohol. Feels sweet. Flavour has mild spicy tones, bourbon, alcohol, vanilla and mild licorice. Feels even a bit watery for this ABV and has rubbery tones on some sips. Nice, but I expected even more from a strong beer from LA.

(375ml 2016 bottle from boxbeers.dk) Pours black with a fizzy pale tan head that fades to a ring quickly. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, cocoa, dark malt, cardamom buns, a bit of fruit, spicebox. Flavour is smooth dark malt with notes of cola, molasses and fudge, chocolate brownie, cardamom, cinnamon, bourbon, light vanilla, oak, cigar tobacco. Semi-sweet up front, it ends quite dry with dusty roast, cacao, oak, ash, light but smoky chili pepper heat, spicebox, cardamom and light alcohol. Medium bodied, with high mouth-filling soda carbonation, a good change from "Flat Abbey" but it was better when swirled out a bit. Solid, feels like a low roast stout as much as a black ale, good spicing, balanced, big bourbon but not overpowering. Nice sipper, especially as a cardamom fan.

Bottle shared with the KL tasting crew. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, red berry fruits, molasses, light liqourice and alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich oily, roasty, dry chilli spice, alcohol bitter palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation.

Sample at Hoof Hearted during the "EWS (El Dorado) vs Did We Just Become Best Fwendz (Amarillo/Simcoe)" event on 09/10/2017. Brown-black color with a thick foamy beige head that diminishes gradually to a film. Sticky patches of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and spice. Full-bodied with flavors of charred malt, oaky bourbon, cinnamon and chocolate. The finish is bourbon and a hint of pepper. Good beer overall.

Bottle. Dark pour. Aroma has rich bourbon vanilla, red fruit, spices, raisin, figs, cinnamon, caramel fudge and chocolate. Taste of spicey milk chocolate, bourbon vanilla, caramel fudge, cinnamon, figs, raisin, red fruit and a long boozy fruity finish with a subtle pleasent afterburn. Absolutely amazing.
