If your are really, really trying to find something and you have looked almost literally EVERYWHERE, the Dutch tend to say: I looked all over the city and country! (Stad & Land) And some times it's also at the same time an excuse for you not finding it and making it someone else's fault. ;) But no worries, we 'found' it, a winning recipe for this one-off beautiful red ale, limited available in keg & bottle. Translates as City & Country.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is malt, black tea, herbal notes, wet grass, touch of caramel, hop, earthy notes. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Pretty herbal-ish with tea, hops and caramel malt. Okay.

De Molen's take on the 'classic' American style amber ale, bottle from Wijnegemse Drankenhal. Irregular, thick but large-bubbled, very coarse, off-white, cobweb-lacing head over a hazy, deep amber-hued copper coloured beer. Aroma of dried orange zest, toast, marmalade, frying red onions, dried mango cubes, strawberry, soaking wet cookies and biscuit, gingerbread, peach. Fruity onset, sweetish with a light sourish touch, some mango, apricot and vague cranberry, fried banana, softly carbonated - in fact a bit undercarbonated for this style. Slick, supple, slightly resiny mouthfeel, pleasantly butterscotch-, peanut- and eventually softly toasty malt bittersweetness, with more emphasis on sweetness than on bitterness - the latter being achieved primarily by a long, drying, rooty, grapefruit peel-like hop bitterness made needlessly earthy by lingering yeast. Undercarbonated and could do with a little less yeastiness and more cleanness, but from a mere flavour perspective, this ticks all the boxes to qualify as an accessible, pleasant, very sessionable 'American' amber ale, with the right balance between fruit and biscuity malt sweetness on the one hand and grapefruity hoppiness on the other hand. Seen within its intended style without further extravagance, this qualifies for me, enjoyed it.

A bit bitter for the style in my opinion. Would prefer some malty caramel body to balance it. 2017 advent calendar

Bottle - Light hoppy notes and woody brown notes. Cloudy brown with a rich white head. Nutty and and dark malts with some bitter notes. Meh.
