Baykeeper IPA is a bright and delicious San Francisco-style IPA, overflowing with juicy and fruit-forward hop layers that finish crisp and dry. Teeming with lime, orange zest and papaya aromas, it has a slightly spicy, yet slightly sweet taste that finishes with a delicate bitterness. Calypso, El Dorado, Cascade and Amarillo Cryo hops were used to amplify the fruity and piney hop aromatics in this slightly hazy brew.

Trivia: San Francisco Bay, one of the world’s most impressive natural waterways and one of California’s most important ecosystems. San Francisco Baykeeper, a local nonprofit, works nonstop to keep it that way. This beer is brewed to celebrate their accomplishments and 30th anniversary.

0.355 l bottle from 'Sterk Avondverkoop', bottled in February 2019. Slightly hazy, orangeish amber with a medium large, dense, stable, white head. Sweetish rather fruity, gently grassy and a bit herbal-resiny aroma of orange, candy and some pine. Gently sweet, moderately bitter, fairly fruity, slightly juicy taste of orange, mango, some candy and a touch of pine, followed by a short, gently bitter, slightly herbal-resiny and moderately grassy finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Pleasant IPA, solid as always from Anchor, must have been even better when fresh.

Bottled 355ml (Alko web, BB 02/2020)
Slightly hazy orange colour, small steady white head. Overriped fruits, malts, citrus in the nose. Medium-bodied. Tropical fruits - apricot in the flavour. Even a bit juicy. Not much to remember from Anchor lately...

Nostalgia makes me root for Anchor, but IPAs like this sure do make it difficult. Not that Baykeeper is bad, just very unremarkable, with a basic citrus hop profile that might have turned heads a decade ago but now seems quaint. Mild grainy sweetness adds balance, but there’s nothing here to compete with modern hop bombs. My score feels generous.

Hazy pale golden colour and a stiff, dense white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma's of earthy bitterness, some resin and fruit. Retronasal it's much milder, more fruit and even some sweetness, plus light resin. Flavour is light moderate bitter with mild malty sweetness. Medium bodied. Soft carbonation. Finishes with a mild herbal bitterness, slightly dry. Decent.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours translucent gold with a foamy white head. Aroma of pale stone fruit and citrus. Med body. Flavor is pale stone fruit, citrus, even a bit zesty, has pine hints, and something like papaya - or mango? - have trouble with those two, but I'll go with papaya. Fruitily undry; detectable malt support; fruitily hoppy; a tad more than moderately bitter. Good drink.
