Beer Michigan is a big ale with complex malt aromas with flavors of bread, caramel, biscuit and toffee with an assertive hop presence. Massive amounts of hops were added in the kettle as well as the whirlpool to provide bitterness as well as complex, resinous hop flavor and additional aromas.
Only Michigan-grown ingredients were used in the recipe. Farmers who grew both the hops and barley and members of our local homebrew communtiy helped brew this beer on our 50-barrel system at our Comstock Brewery.
This beer was brewed to commemorate the 2014 American Homebrewers Association National Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. All conference attendees were given one 22 oz. bottle. A limited number of kegs were also packaged.

Bottle. Clear deep amber color. Aroma of lightly toasted caramel. Taste is peppery burnt caramel. OK.

22oz bottle thanks to Derek. Pours out a copper amber topped with a sand head. Nose is caramel sweetness pine hop earth tones and some pit fruit. Taste is as the nose with a solid malt bill and a good hop touch.

Bottle shared tonight by Michael, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a slightly hazy light brown dark amber color with a smallish off white head that dissipates slowly. Aromas of brown sugar and caramel with a bit of light fruit and light floral hop. The flavor follows the aroma quite well rice dark sugary maltiness with a hint of alcohol fruit and just enough hop flavor to balance. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation. Nice barleywine, I’m glad I got to try it.

Bottle @ RBSG Grand Tasting. Pours a clear pale amber color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel aroma. Fruity malty spicy caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel finish.

Bottle during RBSG 2014 Grand Tasting at Schlafly Tap Room. Caramel brown with off-white head. Aromas of pine, citrus, caramel. Tastes of caramel, figs, dark fruit, pine. Medium body with a dry finish.

Sampled at the 2014 RBSG Grand Tasting, thanks! Pours a hazy amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet grains, light caramel and a touch of toffee. Flavor has the same profile with sweet grains, caramel, and some toffee towards the finish.

Bottle @ RBSG Grand Tasting. Pours a reddish brown appearance with a brown head. Cinnamon, carrot cake, caramel aroma. Moderately sweet. Pretty high bitterness. Toffee, slight chocolate, toasty, light piney flavor. Pretty ok.
