Dark black with tan small head. Roasty malt aroma; super malty taste with chocolate bitters and burn.

Dark brown coloured body with a lighter brown glow when held up to a light, all with a very thin and slightly oily light brown head, only a centimetre or so tall, which makes sense, given the age of this one. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, pitted fruit, prunes and a healthy dose of chocolates noticeable here, with a good balance, but perhaps on the lighter side. Medium-bodied; Strong roasty flavours at first with a big kick of the chocolate, some lighter coffees, a hint of soy sauce and some deeper elements that even ring in some umami flavours and a touch of lactose on the end that balances things out nicely. Aftertaste shows more of the malt and pure sugar components more than the other flavours, but the bitterness, chocolate and coffee flavours are still noticeable, but on the lighter side, in a good way. Overall, a nice Imperial Stout that has some good flavours that have been mellowed in a good way from the age, but perhaps thinned out a touch too much. I think if I drank this 8 to 12 months earlier, it probably would have been in 'peak' form. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in New York (Bowery), New York on 27-May-2016 for US$3,99 sampled a bit less than three years later on 22-January-2019 at home in Washington.

Draught & Top Hops. Opaque dark brown with smallish foamy tan head, mocha aroma, medium carbonation, bitter chocolate taste generously laced with alcohol, thick body, long bitter finish with mocha. The alcohol bite is too obvious, could be much better.

12 oz. bottle, pours a jet black with a small but substantial brown head. Aroma is robust, with tons of rich roasted malt upfront, followed by unsweetened dark cocoa and some boozy woody qualities in there. Flavour is rich and robust, with truckloads of roasted malt dominating, followed by more subdued notes of dark cocoa and maybe a touch of toasted caramel. Fairly low residual sweetness. Robust and very well-constructed. Excellent.

Poured from a 375 ml bottle, 2015 vintage. Aroma is fairly chocolate forward and rich with some light roast notes. Medium dark fruit notes with plum, prune, cherry and raisin. Some light alcohol notes with some bourbon and lighter oak notes. Pours black with some dark brown hues on the edges and a large, thick, dark mocha head that slowly collapses into itself. Moderately high to high lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is rich and somewhat sweet with some moderate chocolate notes and medium light roast character. Moderate dark fruit notes similar to in the aroma. Some moderate bitterness with light floral and grassy hop notes. Light bourbon and oak notes with hints of alcohol spice. Some lingering chocolate and dark fruit in the finish with a hint of acidity. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium high carbonation. Low, but present astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer but not amazing. Too much dark fruit, a bit too astringent and bitter. Light acidic twang.
