Malted barley, oats. The equivalent to Table Beer in our range of stouts and porters. Not brewed to 'dry stout'-style, per se, but a stout that is dry. Light-bodied but not thin, with more prominent kettle-hopping and then dry-hopping to add some brightness and contrast to the roasty, biscuity, and savoury character of the dark malts.

Hand pumped at Malto, Riccione, Italy. Pours dark brown, with very fine homogeneous foam, light brown and very stable. Aroma is coffee, licorice, earthy. Body is a little on the thin side, with no carbonation. Taste is medium roasty, with a rather dry clean final, with some licorice.

25cl draft @ Dynamo.
Brune foncée bordant le noir, col épais crémeux léger blanc-cassé.
Arôme sur une belle base de malts - cara pâle, chocolaté, pointe de résine et pas mal d'agrumes en support - le tout pourrait quasi passer pour une black ipa.
Palais sur un malté pâle, toasté, finement chocolaté et assez sec avec retour de céréales en support. Amertume des houblons offrant un côté pin/résine avec un support d'agrumes voire pointe de finalité allant vers le tropical.

Dark roasted malty with notes of chocolate, sweet biscuity dark malts, notes of grass, some great hoppy citrusy undertones punching through, solid hoppy and dry roasted malty finish. Lovely from Kernel as usual, packs in loads for the modest abv.

Bottled. Brownish black colour with a mediumsized foamy white head. Aroma is roasted malts, cocoa, chocolate, some pine, mild dried fruits. Flavour is leather, some dark berries, dried fruits, chocolate, cocoa and some mild herbs. Somewhat dry palate. Mild ashes in finish.

Bottle @ home. Dark brown to black color, medium sized light brown colored head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is malts, lightly dry and earthy malts and lovely hoppy. Flavor is virtually the same, a nearly perfect balance between the dark maltiness and the hops, with a slight note of red fruit in the distance and a light malty bitter finish. Suitable body and carbonation. Very nice.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up at the brewery. Pours black-brown with a stable, creamy tan head. The nose holds moderate roasted malts, subtle cocoa, some burnt pine. Light sweet with mellow ashy roast, bittersweet cocoa, leather, a few berries, iodine, earth. Light bodied with lively, massaging carbonation. Tidy finish, with further bittersweet cocoa, ashy dryness, more scorched earth. Nice stuff. Plenty of character for the strength.

330ml bottle. Almost black colour with average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige head. Chocolately, roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of cocoa, coffee, grainy coffee, minimally fruity, hoppy overtones. Taste is roasty, chocolately dark malty, subtle sweetness, mild bitterness, hints of coffee and cocoa, cautious fruity hoppy overtones; almost minimally watery.

Bottle from the Ale Stone, Aylestone. Very dark, almost a purplish-black. Tiny ring of khaki head. Woodsmoke, beef tea, a little bit of blackberry on the nose. Sweet taste at first, with a liquorice and berry sugary note. The balancing hop comes in later, taking the edge off the sweetness and providing an almost vinous tannic bitterness. Long creamy finish. This is a great stout.
