(6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Deep golden. Aroma of malt, a bit of wood, scotch and a bit of alcohol. Sweet malty flavor with caramel and scotch notes. Medium-bodied. Not too balanced.

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of fiulijn. Slightly hazy deep golden with an off-white head. Weird aroma of burned rubber and ashes. Medium body with very sweet malts and then again Islay notes of smoke and tar. No bitterness. But terribly disharmonious and pretty gross. 200608

RBESG08 grand tasting 2008. I hate the aroma simply because I don’t like Islay whisky. Some toffee in mouth, not awful, but a subtle Islay flavour. Not off or bad, but just not my flavour.

Bottle, RBESG08 grand tasting Hmm, no ratings from RBESG so far... and yet the notes are there. Hope I’m not crazy. Orange body, small head. Dusty papery nose. Smoke. Smokey sweet taste. Fruity and something else. Liked it quite a bit it seems.

33 cL clear bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a lacing white head. Dry tar and woody aroma. Flavour holds a solid dry pipe smoke note arising from back of the nose. Dry yet also mild sweet caramel malt body. Ends with a mild sweet flavour once the smoke note disapears.

Deep blond color. Smokey aroma, light phenol too. The aroma is ok, but the flavor is much worse: sweetish and artificial, as if they used saccharin, with some smokeyness. Weird.

(Bottle) Pale brown colour with firm, frothy, beige head. Smoky, tarry nose with dried fruit (mainly apricots), wood, heather and evident aromas of Islay whisky. Smokey, fruity taste with tar, dried apricots, Islay whisky and oak wood. Very sweet with heavy flavours of peaty whisky. Too sweet for me, taste is slightly out of balance, not really delivering what the nose promised. Very interesting and a decent try.

Bottled (BBE 12/2007)
Clear copper brown color, strong Scottish (single malt) whisky aroma: smoke, peat. Starts with whisky flavor, then very dry woody aftertaste. Sweetish notes in the finish. More a gimmick than really good combination of whisky and beer.
