Pours a dark brown color, topped with a relatively small tan colored head. Malty aroma, with some bready and caramel notes, slightly roasty. Taste is sweet upfront, with bready and caramel notes. Nice and enjoyable. Mild.

tap at Hoppalas Bieradies Wien. Deep brown colour, creamy beige head. Aroma of buttermilk and dark malts. Buttermilk in the flavours (which is not meant negative) - loads of roasetd malts, pleasantly sweet with hints of chocolate and caramel. A delicious Dunkel - superb stuff.

From tap at Hoppala Bieradies. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a huge brown and creamy head. Aroma is roasted malty and breadish. Toasted malty, caramelish, sweet and breadish. Medium sweet to dry into a roasted dark malty and breadish finish.

Tap at Hoppalas Bieradies, Vienna. Pours dark brown with a foamy, creamy tan head. Good if mild toasted caramel and semi-dark malt nose. Really sweet flavor, like sugary chocolate candy, with some further caramel character. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Faintly syrupy finish, very sweet, with some sickly sugary caramel, dark malts, and slight coffee candy. OK, but certainly too sweet overall, even for a dunkel.

0.5 l bottle from an Interspar in Villach. Poured lighter brown to darker reddish body. Caramel and some licorice in aroma. Sweet roasted sugar typical for doppelmalz dunkels, not overly sweet. Relatively thin bodied with sweetish finish with some coffee. Simple, but quite nice and pleasant beer.

0.5l bottle courtesy of and shared with heavy who brought it from Villach (thanks!) Poured a dark brown-red body with a small off white head that went away relatively fast. Light grainy malty nose. Taste... A slightly more watery and neutral doppelmalz. Obviously malt dominates the taste but it’s not too sweet (not that sweetness is missing). Light, some coffee. Simple, but balanced and ok.

The bottle looks good, the beer in the glass also. Starts fine malty, not too dry. Finish warming, a bit prickly. Good one!
