An APA spiced with lemongrass, depicted on the otherwise typically sober label. Irregular, coarse, bubbly, moussy, off-white head on top of a lightly hazy peach blonde beer with vivid sparkling. Quite straightforward aroma of indeed some dry lemongrass (but less fragrant than I expected), next to dried flowers, grape peel, starfruit, baker’s yeast, toasted white bread, bitterroot, white pepper, dry earth, sourdough, dried peppermint (probably the lemongrass again), raw pineapple, hay, soap, fresh yellow grapefruit peel, some stale urine (old hops?). Crisp onset, clean, with vague fruity accents of green banana and starfruit, subdued sweetishness, minerally, gently carbonated, spicy touches here and there, over a lean, supple body, a bit grainy, somewhat bready and soapy (wheaty), lightly toasted, evolving into a drying, spicy, earthy hoppiness yielding floral and peppery aromas retronasally and leaving behind a thin but long-lasting, spicy bitterness. Lemongrass blends in with the hops but remains very subtle, even though the brewery states it was added late in the brewing process in order to capture its aromas; I had other lemongrass-flavored beers with more delicate exotic spiciness to them so either this bottle is already past its prime, or the lemongrass hasn’t been applied all too succesfully. Other than that, this is a perfectly fine, well-crafted APA, but I hadn’t expected anything less from them.

Bottle at RBBWG 2016 in Antwerpen, brewed July 2015. Clear, golden yellow, white head. Sweetish, fruity-grassy, slightly floral aroma of lemon peel, ginger and pineapple. Slightly bitter, grassy-fruity, slightly floral taste of lemon peel, straw, grapefruit and pineapple, followed by a short, slightly bitter, grassy finish. Thin to medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Nice!

Thank you for sharing ElManana + 1! 500 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBWG V. Brewed on 09.07.2015. Hazy golden with little white head. Nose is weird strong floral jasmine, anise, touch ginseng, ginger, lemon grass,… Taste is a touch dominated by yeast, dough, seems to be due to age, getting an interesting floral profile, juniper & lemon grass. Refreshing, body is a touch too yeasty. Good & interesting beer but it seems to be a touch too old to fully appreciate even if it is BBF 09.07.2016.

Goudkleurig bier met schuim. Smaak is licht bitter en wat minder krachtig dan een standaard IPA. Sporen van limoen, thee en ananas. Gedronken in restaurant Becks Osebro in Porsgrunn.
