Bottle shared in London - picked up in Sofia. Pours deep brown with a creamy, khaki head. The nose holds burnt pine, dry cocoa, ash, aged berries. Medium sweet flavour with more dark berries, ash, baking cocoa, scorched earth. Medium boded with fine carbonation. Warming finish, some dry cocoa, modest bitterness. Not bad.

Tap at Foeders, 17th January 18. Pours dark brown with a lovely off White throthy head. Aroma is floral, perfume, cocoa. Taste is pleasant, floral, then a bitter hop kick, with cocoa, on the finish and a lingering bitterness. Great.

Draught at Foeders in Amsterdam. Creamy, pale beige, densely structured, regularly shaped head over a near-black beer with clear burgundy tinge. Aroma of mandarin peel, black toast, toffee, orange, jasmin blossoms, liquorice and a buttery note of diacetyl. Restrainedly sweet onset, dried fig, raisins, 'drop'-like aspect, medium carbonated, supple and oily mouthfeel. Smooth nutty and toasty malt body, mildly bitterish but sweetish as well, supporting an aromatically "new" hoppy finish, lots of grapefruit flesh and orange peel, piney as well, depositing a drying, spicy bitterness on the root of the tongue. Your standard modern black IPA, with enough emphasis on the hoppiness of it, contrary to many other European attempts at this style - have an extra point for that, and for still making one, now that this style in its country of origin is in a steady decline due to that 'fruit juice' NEIPA craze.
