On tap @Medina Škrinja, Varaždin. Black pour, half finger creamy beige head, medium lasting. Nice lacing on the glass. A bit mild on the nose, roasty notes, caramel, cocoa, not picking up much of vanilla or oak in there. Light to medium body, average carbonation. Average mouthfeel and texture, moderately fizzy, slight chewy. Easily drinkable. Roasty bittersweet taste. Malty aroma, roasted malt, coffee, cocoa. Caramel, dark fruits. Again, not much of vanilla or oak... Faint bourbon notes in the background. Medium lasting finish, dry, lingering bitterness. Had my expectations set a bit low for this one. Overall, not that bad actually. Decent.

On tap at Grif Bar, Zagreb. Dark brown, medium creamy beige head. Aroma is mostly malty, dark malts, dried fruit, bread. Not picking out any oak, bourbon or vanilla. Maybe some wood or even cardboard. Kinda smooth. Flavours present, surprisingly. Some vanilla, hints of charred wood, fake bourbonish also. Light body, soft texture, roasty finish.

On tap at Pivana Zagreb. Served a way too cold so I had to wait about 15min to feel something in the aroma. Black coloured, medium sized beige head that went away fast, light vanilla in the nose. Light roasted malt, noticable vanilla, faint touch of wood and even slightly watery. Bitterish finish. Expected something better.

Tap at Pivana. Pitch black body, creamy white-tan head, medium retention. Looking fine! Aroma, creamy, mild vanilla aroma, actually nice, if not complex or too up front. Let the beer warm for a while as it was obviously too cold... Didn't help it as much as I'd hoped. Light and lean malty backboned, too light and lean and non-distinct, helped with subtle, light vanilla notes, the star of this beer. But they are subdued too. Thin bitterish finish and aftertaste, with just a subtle, vague touch of wood in the very finish hiding within the bitterish notes. Huh... this does have its upsides, I mean, vanilla's a wonderful thing and it helps here, but nothing bourbon-like about it and the oak is an afterthought. My main gripe would perhaps be the base beer which is almost a blank, non-distinctive slate, when it could provide balance and allow vanilla to shine even more in combo with some special-malt notes. And I'm quite sure that that feat of daring wouldn't alienate anyone, but eh, their choice. I love this style, it can be fantastic, but this, while a solid beer, is far from a fantastic example.
