Cask at the Catherine Wheel (JDW), Henley. Glossy black with a thin scummy looking tan head; oaty aroma; rich oaty texture, with a bitter chocolate taste - too heavily roasted for my taste; the a dry finish with some coffee grounds.

Cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 24 October. Poured a thick black with a tight tan head and good lacing. Roasted malt aroma with liquorice and a smoky edge. Thick, creamy mouth feel. Flavours of dark fruit, molasses and some light peat. Finished with burnt malt, grains and a very well balanced roastiness. Nice stuff.

Cask at Victoria Station Spoonerium, 28/10/13. Mid black with a good sized tan head. Nose is roast malt, subtle milk chocolate, oaty biscuit notes. Taste comprises light roast, chocolate hobnobs, touch of liqourice, hint of dark fruit. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry lightly roasted finale. Decent enough stout, one of the better beers of this fest.

Thin bodied but retains character along with a thick bubbly head. It’s not quite black but is very dark. It has an excellent grain roasted aroma but less stated in taste.

Cask handpull at Victoria Spoons. Very dark brown beer almost black. Thin collar of bubbles. some coffee some some chocolate some dark syrup. Not quote molasses but getting that way. Not how I normally imagine an oatmeal stout. it’s ok just not my kind of beer. Molasses date dqrk plum is intriguing though.
