Although it is the great India Pale Ale that is associated with the British Empire of the 18th century, it was Porter which was consumed in the greatest volume by the soldiers serving in the Chennai region of India. Our Porter is a tribute to this great British style, dry-hopped with Chinook and Columbus for that extra punch of hop flavour over the coffee and chocolate character provided by a blend of 7 different malts.

Craft Islington. Keg. Clear reddish brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is light and crispy and semi dry. Mild minerals. Dark malts are thin but rich in flavour, bringing a little roast and earthy coffee. Good hops on top, pine and a little citrus. Mild bitterness before a dry finish. Really Black IPA territory for me. Decent.

On cask, half at Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell. Dissipating beige head. Deep rosewood coloured body. Roasted black malts on the nose with a touch of earth to it. Similar flavours of back malts, coffee and chocolate, this time with a dark fruity touch. Malt bitterness to a prolonged ending. Well bodied. Tasty porter (London 28.09.2014).

Huddersfield Beer Festival. Black, next to no head. Is very sweet with a sticky texture. Has roasted malts within its sweetness.

Keg at the Barton Arms; dark brown almost black pour with a thin tan head, aroma has coffee, taste is backed up with instant coffee action, dark fruits and some plain chocolate, bitter chocolate.

Keg at Leeds Int. BF. Dark, reddy brown. Tight, tan head. Vine fruits. Piny bitterness. Taste is fruity dry, with the bitterness in the background. Ashy, dry palate. Light bitter finish.
