Green 500ml bottle: BBD 31 Jul 15. Part of a blind ’supermarket Pilsner’ tasting at home on 18 Jan 15. Just me playing, the wife pouring! This won out of the three beers on the day. Looked good, golden, clear, clean and bright: usual fading white crown on top. Slight hop odour but no real aroma to talk of. Pleasant, uncomplicated bend of light malts and floral hops. Decent without really setting the world alight. A bog standard German Pilsner in all aspects, which means it’s fine.

Bottle from Waitrose, Stevenage. Clear yellow-gold with no head. Not too impressed with this, the pilsner style is very understated with not a lot of flavour. Somewhat floral and grassy, it has a small chemical-like taste that makes this a poor beer.

500ml bottle. Pours gold with a thin head. Aroma is grass and minerals, a touch metallic. Taste has sweet minerals to start with a sweet grassy and corn finish.

Pretty unremarkable beer this, really. A sweetness dominates proceedings. Can’t imagine wanting more than a couple. A bit thin.

Pale gold with a slight white head and a few bubbles. Sweet, cereal malt and floral hop aroma. Flavour had sweetish fruitiness, some solid malts and lingering bitter finish. Ok.

Bottle generously shared by Ian at The Kernel, London. Pours perfectly clear, light yellow with a frothy, white head. Floral nose, some skunky cabbage, pale cereal malts. Medium sweet flavor rife with biscuity pale malts, light floral bitterness, straw. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish with basic, biscuity malts, white bread, cereal, white sugar, light hay bitterness. I have no doubt this beer will go down in history as one of the great supermarket-branded lagers.

Aroma is awful skunk. Some lemon and herby noble hop on finish. But overall just pretty horrible.

50cl bottle. Pale straw with a billowing white head that settles quickly; fragrant, grassy aroma; clean and crisp taste with some delicate, sweet cereal grains and a reasonable, strawy bitterness giving a dry finish. Pretty good.
