Cask, on gravity at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol October 2015. Dark brown in colour, with a slight, beige, head. Toasty malts, a touch of fruit, milk chocolate sweetness and a moderately dry finish. Good.

Cask @ Cuthbert Brodrick, Leeds. Not quite black, wiith a creamy off-white head. Understated in its roasted malt character, although very smooth and nice in the palate. There’s a small floralness to the ale and some coffee is available too.

Crosse Keys Spoons. Cask. Clear deep red - brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light, semi dry and has modest fine carbonation. Smooth and mellow dark malts. Touch of sweetish dark chocolate. Mild floral berry fruits. A light sweetness runs throughout this beer. Mild sweet esters. Whisper of spice on the light finish. Tasty.

Cask at the Montague Pyke. It pours near black with a small tan head. The nose is sweet milky action initially, then some umami, earthy roast, liquorice, burnt coffee and spice. The taste is bitter-sweet, burnt roasted malt, toasty, charcoal, sticky sweet milk, sweet cheap coffee, dull fruity tang and some spice. Light - medium body, lowish carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Some. A bit sweet and tangy, yet also slight burnt. Doesn’t do much for me...

Cask at Hamilton Hall, JDW - London. Pours deep brown with a foamy tan head. Muted aroma, vague and mellow roast, suggestions of cocoa. Light-medium sweet flavorbwith radiant milk chocolate, low roast, minimal bitterness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; nice condition. Finishes with smooth, rounded and sweet milk chocolate character, mild and not-bitter roasted malts, hints of dark fruits, bread. Really smooth and drinkable overall. Nice one.

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. A deep mahogany colour with a thin cream head; spicy aroma; soft milky body with richly roasted malts and a touch of sourness; then an oddly spicy finish. I don’t get any chocolate or coffee from this.

On cask at the Standing Order. Appearance - opaque black with a nice creamy head. Nose - toffee tangy orange and light chocolate at the back. Very interesting and unexpected. Taste - more of the same really . Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and unfortunately the finish is a bit sickly. Overall - nice but finish too sweet.
