Amber / Red Ale - American Regular
Score
6.27
ABV: 5.0% IBU: - Ticks: 16
This occasionally seen American red IPA-style beer is brewed again especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. The hoppy aroma leads to biscuit malt flavours which, in turn, yield to the American hop flavours, resulting in a vibrant character and a long, satisfying mouthfeel.

Hops: Cascade, Chinook, Fuggles

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol March 2016. Deep golden in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. Aroma of weetabix malts and a touch of citrus fruit, with a whiff of leafy hop. Flavour had sweetish, earthy, malts, some more fruit and a moderately bitter finish. Fine.

Cask at the Monk’s Retreat, Reading. Hazy amber with a middling off-white head. Cheap white chocolate (didn’t expect that!) with a little tropical fruit and a dirty pine bitterness. Some slimy grubby caramel left on the tongue. The aftertaste is a little better- digestive biscuits arrive to soak up some of the dirt and allow lemon and pine to come through a bit more. However it’s too little and too late to save the day, and overall this beer just serves to reinforce my general dislike of this brewery and its products.

Cask @ Sir Norman Rae, Shipley. Amber-gold with a creamy head. Tropical fruit hopped, with a steady fruity sweetness and mild with its strength in terms of its taste.

Cask @ JDW Shrewsbury Hotel, Shrewsbury. Pours clear amber, white head. No American hop flavours. A rather tired malt-forward character with little to get excited about. Next.
