Bottle split on the return from Cotteridge convention, 24/01/15. (Drunken rate) Many thanks to Lorna.Clear golden coloured pour with a nice thin lasting sticky white head. Aroma is honey, earthy, sweet caramel malts. Flavour is composed of light earthy berry, nutty caramel malts, light citrus. Palate is medium sweet, highish carbonation. Good.

Bottle shared on the train home from the Cotteridge Convention 2015. Thanks to Lorna for this rare gem! Pours clear gold with a creamy white head. The nose holds ripe and sugary citrus fruits, underscored by pale bread. Medium sweet flavor with some piney bitterness, cereal, hay, citrus and white bread. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish with further piney hops, light grass and simple, pale bready malts. Fine.

Bottle on Virgin Trains (quelle surprise), Lancaster to Milton Keynes. Served in a plastic glass out of necessity. Golden, clear with a small wispy white head. Pine and citrus aroma. Not strong but lovely if you let your nose work for it. Balanced bittersweet taste, with an odd an unfortunate plastic aftertaste (and no, it’s not from the glass... it’s still there when I drink from the bottle). Bittersweet finish and aftertaste. I am in two minds: thrilled that something approaching craft ale is available on my rail operator of choice, but also disappointed that this isn’t better. Ah well, small steps and all that.

Bottle on Virgin Trains, Colwyn Bay to Chester [270115]
Golden, light haze, light bubbles, no head
Aroma of very light citrus, not much here to be honest
Taste of light pale sweet malts, citrus hops, some sharp lemon zest, bit watery but quite refreshing
Palate - Medium carb, light body. Finish is quite bitter, some grapefruit rind in there
Overall - Easy going craft, good to see something better than the usual shit on the trains, but weak in aroma

Bottle split on the return Cotts X-Press to EUS, thanks to Lorna 24/01/15. Clear golden with a moderate off white covering. Nose is caramel, spice, straw, bitter citric peel. Taste comprises caramel malt, vanilla, orange rind, straw. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok APA - a touch basic but decent for train branded swill! Probably a GB in my book!

Bottle thanks to Lorna on the return from Cotteridge. It pours clear gold with a small white head. The nose is soft, toasty, subdued orange sherbet, lemon and brioche. The taste is crisp, smooth bitterness, lemon sherbet, grassy stuff, lemon rind and straw with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Easy-going and pretty drinkable.

Picked up on a Virgin train. Pleasant surprise to see Red Willow. From notes, it’s a lightly hopped American pale designed to not startle the horses. Light citrus, low bitterness and a thin finish. A cut above the usual train fair.
