Lil Opal is a Farmhouse style saison that launched our Barrelworks program. Aged in our terracotta amphora, this beer refreshes the palate with a soft light acidity with earthy funk undertones.

Bottled. Cloudy yellow orange. Lemon, herbs, and tart Brett funk. It delivered despite the high price point.

Pours darker blonde, very clear. Small, nearly no white head. Scent is nice, complexly tart. American style, but the good kind. Buttery, lactic, malty, white fruits. Thirst provoking ! Taste is full, very malty, buttery (not in a bad, diacatyl way though, more so oriented by the wood and possible yeasty butteryness) , lactic acid but far more complex tan simple added LA. For a saison, could be a bit more dry and phenolic perhaps, but the beer it turns out to be, is a beer i'm happy to drink. Mild acidity overall, but perfectly in balance indeed.

Batch 2, 2016. It pours lightly hazy yellow - blonde with a nice fluffy white head. The aroma had some deep funk, damp hay, barnyard, touch of manure, touch of spice, vinous, white wine, light vanilla, dry oak, gooseberry fool and apple crumble. The taste is dry, oaky, light tannin, zingy lemon sherbet, granny smith apple, gooseberry, white grape, quite juicy, nice puckering sourness, musty, funky, barnyard, only a hint of acidity and vinous action with a drying, tart white grape finish. Medium body and moderate, massaging carbonation. Has aged gracefully. Puckering and moreish. Tasty

Bottle from (I think) old Bottle Shop, Bermondsey stock. Hazy orange pour with a white head. Nose of orange peel, honey, lemon, lots of tart fruits. Taste is orange pith, honey, white grape, light oak. Tart, dry citrusy finish. Tasty stuff.

Bottle. Wine Rack, Sharrow, Sheffield. 6.1%. Mostly clear, pale, amber gold. Fine, dense white head stays the course. Nose has wood glue. Raw meat. And that’s about it. Holy shit. Taste is flabby, fatty bitterness. I’ve no idea what is going on here. Oily and soggy mouthfeel. Can’t be bothered going on. Awful.

Flaska från Firestone, drygt två år gammal. Tack Andreas! Bra!
