Collaboration beer devised by beer bloggers Rob from Hopzine and Rich from The Beer Cast.

The guys chose to collaborate on a beer that really embodied what a writer needs to get those cogs turning; coffee for a pick-me-up and chocolate for a sweet kick and they added oatmeal for a Scottish twist. The beer is a 6.5% milk, oatmeal, chocolate coffee stout. They joined us at our old stomping ground, the original BrewDog brewery in Fraserburgh (affectionately known as the Dystopian Puppet Hobby Centre), for a brew day to help us make the beer.

Rob and Rich have named the beer Dead Metaphor, after a lot of the nomenclature and meaningless buzz words and phrases that are bandied about in the world of beer writing. This beer should be sipped for instant inspiration.

Semmi hab, fekete szín. Illata édeskés-savanykás pörkölt malátás, kávés, kakaós. Kávés, feketecsokis, kakaós aszalt gyümölcsös ízvilág. Picit édes, közepesen testes, enyhén keserű és szénsavas. Isteni, kiváló egyensúlyú sör, és kifejezetten jót tesz neki a viszonylagos könnyedsége.

Keg at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014. Pours dark brown with a creamy, tan head. Great balance. Nice dark fruit notes, brown bread, mellow roast. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Some figs, toasted bread, mild cocoa in the finish. Solid.

A brown beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, chili, and roasted malt, leading to a dry chili finish.

I thought I’d had it but I guess I lost the rating. Anyways, it came up on sale for 50% off from Taniguchi so I snapped up a few bottles. Served in my stout glass it poured pitch black with a thick dark tan head that left some soapy lacing. The nose is savoury umami, soy, cacao and a bit of sweet milk coffee. Thinner bodied than anticipated. The taste is roasty at first, soy, toasted oats but it is in the finish and the aftertaste that the coffee shines through giving you roast coffee, oats and a certain sweetness. Very enjoyable.

Bottle at home. Black color, small coffee colored head. Smells malty roasty, coffee, some raosted grain notes, also a very light smoke note and slight sweetness. Full body, slick, malty taste, light to medium sweetness, light smoke note, some coffee, some roastiness. Light smoky / light sweet malty finish. Good, I would enjoy a bit more roasty bitterness on the finish instead of the sweetness.
