Tastes like an IPA, looks like a stout. Hops, hops and more hops on top of a light yet dark juicy malt base. Right or wrong?

Almost opaque black - brown beer, good tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Thin dark malts, smooth and with a trace of cream. Mild roast. Touches of dark chocolate and coffee. Mild pine and a whisper of tropical fruits. Smooth chocolatey finish. Pretty good, up the hops and it could be great.

Bottle split at Level 42, thanks to Fergus, 07/09/16. Rich mahogany brown with a decent khaki head. Nose is pine, black pepper, spice, cocoa rub, toffee, faint tropicana, earthy hops. Taste comprises earthy minerals, grains, black pepper, spice, charr, light roast, liqourice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Average to Ok ... a bit overly minerally/earthy.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Fergus. Pours deep brown with a tight, foamy beige head. Burnt pine in the nose, dry cocoa, scorched earth. Light sweet flavour with strong minerality, more earth, oily pine, toast, grains. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Resinous finish with more flinty minerals, scorched earth, woody dryness, orange rind. Not bad overall.

Keg at BD ABZ. At 6.8%. It pours pretty much black with a thick light beige head. The nose is bitter - sweet, liquorice, jammy berry, treacle, liquorice and candied peel. The taste is bitter, earthy roast, charred wood, charcoal, jammy berry, spice, mild acidity, decent espresso coffee and earth with a lingering dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Nice jammy character.
