Dark brown with a frothy / creamy tan head and soft roasted malt and a touch of fruit and nut chocolate on the nose. Smooth and creamy but on the thin side somehow, chocolate malt and hints of dark fruit predominate, some roasted character and a dry finish.

Cask at the moon under water Watford Jdw. A clear mahogany brown coloured pour with a decent khaki head. Aroma is brown bread, fruit and nut, raisin. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, chocolate malts, mellow roast, brown bread, raisin loaf, nutty hazelnut. Palate is semi sweet, little thin mellow cask condition. Not bad.

Cask at The Bank House. Clear brown with a beige head, looking worryingly thin. Aroma of chocolate and dark fruity malts. Taste of chocolate, dark fruits, a little liquorice, mild coffee roast malt bitterness. Light thin body. It's fine but a bit weak.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] An opaque peaty brown pour with a thin beige head that completely coats the inside of the glass; roasted malt aroma; smooth in the mouth with a sweet malty taste; and a rich malty finish offset by a charred bitterness.

Cask at Bull & Stirrup, Chester. Pours a (very) dark reddish-brown with a small foamy cream head and excellent lacing. There’s roasted malts and balsam in the aroma plus hints of coffee. In the mouth it is sweet with just a touch of sharpness. Flavours of roasted malts, cola and traces of chocolate. Later on it becomes quite bitter with hints of hops and dark fruit leading to a slightly fruity finish. This is quite nice.

Wetherspoon 2025 Autumn Beer Festival. Ale#8 of 26 untried possibilities at the fest. Not a stated stout, dark-malty undercurrents, but there's enough here for the style. Session material for a dark brew.
