Brewed with loads of roasted and black malts, and over two gallons of VT maple syrup per barrel, this beauty was aged in oak barrels that previously held apple brandy. This rich & complex beer will mature for many months. Made for sub zero nights & pairing with decadent desserts.

Bottle at Leighton’s 20K, big thanks to L-Dogg himself. It pours jet black with a small light tan head. The aroma is rich, slick, dark roasted malt, milk chocolate, touch of coffee, vanilla, toffee, fudge and some sweet apple brandy. The taste is slick, rich roasted malt, toasty, wood, leather, chocolate cake, sweet liqueur, coffee grounds ,brandy, wood and tannin with a warming finish. Slick and thick in the mouth. Pretty good, but lacks a bit of depth that is expected of the style. Fun stuff nonetheless.

Tap into a snifter showing translucent coffee with sparse latte colored foam. The nose shows a lot of raisin and brandy barrel. The palate is medium bodied and moderately carbonated. Strong flavors of brandy with barely any coffee flavor.

Leighton’s 20K at his posh new gaff! Big thanks to our 20K boy. Opaque black - brown beer, good dark tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Mellow dark malts, mild dark chocolate. Modestly spicy calvados. Trace of maple, pretty subtle. Light finish. It’s fine but a bit simplistic, I just wanted more going on.

Bottle shared in London for the 20k - big thanks to Garrold for the trade! Pours black-brown with a frothy tan head. Good roast in the nose, rounded chocolate, some dried fruits, dates. Medium to big sweet flavour with chewy chocolate, mild alcohol boost, more dried dark fruits, burnt caramel. Full bodied, lightly oily, with fine carbonation. A little warming inthe finish, some ash, more chocolate, raisins. I like it. Good stuff.

Draught at Row 34, 12/12/16.
Dark ebony-mahogany body of undetermined clarity. Tan head atop is small and shows modest retention.
Molasses and char in the nose give way to a softer vanilla and creme brulee character. The barrel treatment is light and doesn’t over-dry the beer nor is it full of boozy esters. Dark chocolate, light fudge and bits of saltiness linger on the finish.
In the mouth it’s dry, bitter, though not too much so and only vaguely expressive of the apple brandy. Just a bit of fruitiness and spiciness that is severely overshadowed by deep chocolate, roast and prune character. Raisins, plums, dark chocolate and more on the finish with some light alcohol emerging with warming but nothing unexpected for its size. Good attenuation and a "chewy" texture with low but ample carbonation.

Bottle. Craft Beer Cellar, Waterbury, VT. Not far off black. Ring of dense, tan head. Leggy and slow moving. Nose has Somerset Pomona liqueur. Loads of maple syrup. Treacle and soft liquorice. Notes of apple pomace. Notes of vanilla. Taste is rich, baked apple sweetness. Turns light, charred wood bitter. Sticky smooth mouthfeel. Doesn’t feel 11% by a long way. Finishes woody, sweet, baked apple, and treacle like. Really quite lovely.

Poured into a tulip, the appearance was a pure jet black pour with barely a head. It was tan and dissipated immediately. Lacing is barely there and somewhat in little crisp puddles around the glass.
The aroma starts with the apple brandy, pure and sweet thick. Woodiness with the maple syrup rides in nicely. Roasty coffee bean balances.
The flavor leans to the apple boozy to woody and maple. Dry sweet roasty coffee to chocolate taste. Big apple brandy sweet to maple aftertaste running on into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice sipping quality about it. Carbonation seems barely there, thus creating quite a bit of stickiness.
Overall, superb aroma and flavor, but if that carbonation could be amped up just a bit, it would probably help pull down some of that almost cloying sort of feel to it.
