Lager. That most taken for granted, everyday of beers is actually one of the most complex from a brewing perspective, and given due care and imagination really can be sublime.
Brewed with 100% barley malt, ‘munichised’ water, and, most importantly, given a proper lagering (cold conditioning) period for 5-6 weeks following fermentation, this 5.2% abv Munich helles style lager beer has a perfect bitter-sweet balance and fabulously sparkling appearance. We don’t pasteurise our lager, so it’s extra fresh and keeps its natural fullness of flavour.

Bottle and can. Clear deep golden body with a thin white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, straw and white bread. Flavour of grass, herbs, biscuit and a light hoppy finish. Thin body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Very clean and crisp but with a maltier note than most. Nice label design.

Straw-coloured, clear, with a pleasant white head. Light maltiness, floral, citrus, and fruity notes in the aroma. Similar taste, medium body and carbonation, clear lager profile, barely perceptible bitterness, slightly herbal. Okay.

Festival pint (20 oz) draft at Ryries at Haymarket Station, Edinburgh, Scotland. It pours a dark golden-amber color with a small khaki head and great retention. Virtually no aroma. Excellent retention. This is a very good Helles. It's smooth and clean and bready/doughy, and really easy drinking. Medium body and medium-light carbonation. Not bitter at all. Slightly sweet. The more I drink of this Helles, the more I like it. It's really good.

From tap at The Guildford Arms, Edinburgh. Sweetish malt with grainy notes, hint of fruit. On the sweet side for Helles, I prefer a more bitter Helles. Still, acceptable Lager.

Old rating - A 330ml bottle brought back from Scotland by my wife. Pours a amber with a white head. Aromas & tastes of caramel, malt, fruits & straw. Medium carbonation. Crisp slightly bitter finish. Passable, but not a helles.

Big can from McAldi - clear gold with a little white top. Grassy, light on the malt, flowery hop. Decent enough.
