42nd floor beer share. Thanks to Dan. Almost opaque dark brown beer, thin pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Thin dark malts, mild dark chocolate. Some wine barrel character but there is also a light gueuzey vibe here. Dry spicy woody finish. Probably not what was intended but it’s alright.

Bottle split at L42, thanks to Daniel, 14/06/17. Black with a decent tan cap. Nose is earthy, brown sauce, spice, molasses, dark fruit collapse. Taste comprises mellow wine barrel, tangy dark fruits, spice, molasses, toffee, light roast. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, drying close with a rising boost. Not great ... lacks balance, cohesion and class.

Bottle at L42. It pours black with a small bubbly tan head. The aroma is sweet, juicy, tangy, fruity, red wine, toasty, rich roasted malt, fruit cake and jam. The taste is juicy, sweet, slick oily, tangy, vinous, red wine, oaky, light vanilla, boozy warmth, toasted action and pepper with a drying finish. Medium - full body and average carbonation. Good fun.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Daniel. Pours clear, deep brown-black with a creamy, tan head. The nose has light funk, dried berries, torched wood. Medium sweet flavour, boozy, with some ashy roast, scorched earth. Full bodied, chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, with dried berries, leather, a little manure, tangy wood. Interesting, but not hugely drinkable.

Stockport Beer Festival 2016. Black coloured ale. The wine cask influence is very evident, and whilst this ale has always been strong tasting, it very much tastes like barley wine here rather than an imperial stout. Roasted malts are still evident in its nose and aftertaste.
