Rich, full bodied and gently sweet. The addition of oats and raisins provide body and a gentle fruitiness with classic British hops bringing bitterness and structure.

500ml bottle from Morrisons @ 4.8%. God damn fridge has broke in a heat wave and I'm not into room temperature pales so on to the stouts which probably should be lightly chilled at the moment but still better option. Pours black, small tanned head. Aroma is sweet, light roast and coffee, chocolate, light berries, burnt toffee. Quite nice. Nice balance between rich and sweet with a bitterness running through. A bit too thin maybe as the flavours don't hang around long. Taste includes biscuit, light roast, coffee, chocolate, berry notes from the brambling cross hops. No mention of raisins or oats in the brew so I think its just a plain stout so no idea where they are going with the cake theme. Its nice but a bit thin.

Bottle. Color: Black, beige head. Aroma: Roasted malt, earthy, raisins. Taste: Earthy, roastex malt with subtle fruity raisin notes. Sweetish but not too sweet . Medium body, just below average carbonation. Over moderate sweet, light to moderate bitterness. A bit thin, but ok overall.

500ml bottle form Wales Ales. Dark brown colour, beige foam head and aroma of roast malt, ash, coffee, dark chocolate, earthy. Taste is dark malt, roasted, fruity, coffee & chocolate hints, with ashy earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry roasty bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

500ml bottle. Poured a clear almost black colour with a short-lived, frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, red berry fruits. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter and sweet, with a smooth, rich, roasty, light ashtray, red berry fruit palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

Black beer, decent tan head. Light malt aroma, just a little fruity. Flavour has malt, a little dried fruit, a very light hint of spice. It's not bad but it doesn't have much oomph to it.

500ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Nov 21. Thanks Jeremy for this. Pours dark, moderate beige head. Lovely light pintworthy stout, though it's a bit disingenuous to call it a Welsh cake stout. No raisin or Welsh cake-like flavours coming through whatsoever. Nicely rounded though. Subtle bitterness.

Fun Boy Five: 22nd November 2021, Beer Share in Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Five guys splitting beers. 500ml bottle, brought by me. This was the biggest disappointment of the tasting session. No sweetness or 'cakes' at all. It was thin, dry and pretty boring to be honest. Black with a tanned head appearance wise.

Rocky tan head stayed on a still black body. Malt, bitter & liquorice aroma. Medium bodied, soft & creamy with thinner clean back. Malt, liquorice, toffee, demerara & fruity tastes with a long tangy finish. Very nice.
