Brekeriet Cassis is a sour ale mainly fermented with Brettanomyces yeast. Black currant is added during the secondary fermentation and this yeast loves berries which is shown in the fantastic taste of the beer. Brekeriet Cassis is refermented in the bottle which gives a thin layer of yeast at the bottom of the bottle.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks Leighton. Opaque dark cherry red beer. Residual pink head. Squashed cherry and piss on the nose. This carries over to the taste - tart cherry and unmistakeable urea. Dry finish. Much too pissy! Bleh!

Bottle at Bruce’s, London. Pours a lovely, deep bloody ruby-red with a fine, frothy pink head. Hefty ripe and tangy berry aroma, some herbs and pepper. Light sweet flavor, some tangy berries, a bit of peppery spice, some herbs, cherries, sweat. Light to medium bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Tangy and lightly drying to finish, some dry berries, cherries and raspberries, grape skins, sweaty funk. Pretty good beer on the whole.

[5/5/13] Bottle at Mikkeler & Friends in Copenhagen. Bottle #758. Dark red-purple with a lovely pink head. Lovely aroma with brett, oak and lots of cassis. Great sour flavor with oak, brett, lots of cassis and a slightly lemony finish. Rounded-mouthfeel. Wonderful.

Aroma: Funky acidic berry fruity.
Palate: Medium body. Moderate sweet and a fine bitterness. Soft carbonation. Dry texture.
Taste: Complex acidic and sour ale. Berry fruity. Blac currant.
Overall impression: Tasty and fresh sour ale.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a deep red with a slight haze and a warm pinkish - or even purple - head. A vague whiff of barnyard in the nose, but the blackcurrant totally dominates. Medium body, dry and slightly tart with massively fresh blackcurrant. Minerally, even salty, with a dry tartness. Very interesting - but as always I’d love it even funkier. But full of promises as always from Brekeriet. 220413

33 cl bottle at Mikkeller & Friends. Pours hazy red to purple with a pink to red head. Solid black currant aroma. Sweet, citric and fruity flavoured. Fruity sour, dry base and mild citric into the finish. Tart and citric black currant finish.

BB 2015-01-03, sampled on March 30, 2013.Bit hazy dark red color, big lasting inside of blueberry pinkish red head. Wonderful look! Sweet, mellow, black currant lemonade scent. Tart, berry, sweet, black currants lemonade taste.You could fool someone that don’t like beer or alcohol with this one for sure! Can imagine this to be a fantastic summer drink, works well late Swedish winter too though.Acidic tart finish. A bit bubbly, sort of smooth, tart mouthfeel. Low bitterness.As my friends will say I’m not one to follow a hype much, but this I can understand why it has been talked up by so many, really hope to be able to have this one again. Gott, friskt, syrligt och surt. Mycket smak av svartvinbär lagom surhet och kolsyra med en lång eftersmak. Välbalanserad. Mer av detta tack. Roligt att Brekeriet vågar sig på denna typ av öl.
