Black with a light brown head - Dark malt aroma with hints of coffee - Dark malt body with some hints of coffee flavour and nice hop bitterness that has some fruity tones - The dark malt flavour goes into the finish with hops - This was good

Black IPA by this successful craft brewery in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Creamy, thick, pale greyish beige, stable and dense head, black robe. Aroma of black coffee, burnt toast, heavily toasted walnuts, burnt pine wood even, charcoal, dried fig, dry beef stock cubes, grapefruit peel, wormwood. Sweetish onset in a clean and restrained way, touch black olive umami, very light sourish hint, medium carb with light minerally effect; rounded, oily mouthfeel, smooth, lots of burnt-toasty bitter maltiness even shifting to a roasted chicory-like bitterness in the end, accentuated by peppery and dried grapefruit peel-like, somewhat ‘wormwoody’ hop bitterness with a light citric freshness to it; a sweeter, more toffeeish aspect of the beer’s malt profile seems to appear only afterwards. Nice generic black beer – in fact this is more a stout than a black IPA, seen the heavily pronounced roastiness and rather subdued hop aromatics. Needs more expressive grapefruit and pine resin hoppiness, but nonetheless delicious, as a whole.
