A Belgian Quad by recipe, but aging it in spirits barrels garners its own category: Central Coast Quad. A beer formulated to sit on the sweeter and malty side so that we could utilize it for blending. Turbinado brown sugar from Mexico and Belgian candi sugar add wonderful molasses flavors. It has a full body and lush texture with barrel expression all over this beer: toasted oak, coconut, leather and cigar tobacco.

Bottle: Poured a dark burgundy color ale with a light brown foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of candi sugar is pretty intense with some barrel-aging notes also clearly identifiable. Taste is a mix of deep rich residual candi sugar notes with light candy-like notes, some vanilla and bourbon notes with light dry fruit notes also perceptible. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable beer but slightly too sweet which limits drinkability after a while.

Gott

Bomber at home, 2015 edition, from an IP trade with richiesd. Pours a deep dark brown colour with a small frothy beige head. Aroma's of bourbon, alcohol, fudge and some fruit. Retronasal it's sweet, boozy, vanilla, wood, fudge. Flavor is caramellish sweet and boozy. Strong alcohol feel at first, mellowing a bit in time. Full bodied. Long finish. World class barrel ageing, as can be expected from FW.

Draught No head but cream rim; ruby-shot, near black beer. Again Bourbon, tad ureum, vanilla, cocos, hint at mocha, roast. Sweet-roasted, but - unlike the other FW sampled beers, balanced, with a bit of coffee, cascara with its acidity, incense, and dark candi sugar; fusels. Slick, alcoholheat, viscous-oozy. Pleasing warmth. Superb, if sweet "quadrupel", in the best way - kudo's!
