Dark brown with a clingy, beige head. Aroma of vanilla frosting with a touch of milk chocolate. Taste is bitter with growing acridity at the finish, lacking range though given the power being packed here. Body to the full side of medium, carbonation a bit too prickly. Okay. A bit unfriendly. Maybe I‘m losing my taste for these impies, or at least the mediocre ones.

Was in the mood for a dark beer so decided to crack this 800-900¥ can of a big dark beer. Knee Deep Imperial Tanilla 10% Imperial Porter brewed with Vanilla Beans Deep black with a tan head that leaves lovely lacing behind. The aroma is toasty chocolate, vanilla and sweetness that evokes an oatmeal stout for me. Medium bodied with a semi-slick mouthfeel and a nice taste of Porter with a balanced sweetness, mild roast character and vanilla beans in the finish. Best dark beer I’ve had from Knee Deep for sure, the ABV is well hidden too. This paired very well with some nuts.

Sample at Arizona Strong Beer Festival 2019. Almost black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark malt, chocolate, coffee and some light vanilla. The same in the taste. The body was medium and the finish quite long.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 8/8/2018. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, roasted nuts, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, wood, herbal, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts; light-moderate vanilla, earthy hops, and fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, roasted nuts, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, wood, herbal, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light pine, herbal, woody, spicy hop; and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, roasted nuts, toasted dark/brown bread, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, wood, herbal, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts; light-moderate vanilla, earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and no cloying/acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 10%. Overall this is a very nice flavored imperial porter. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts; light-moderate vanilla, earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Not overly bitter/roasty. Great rich malt complexity with nice vanilla presence; balancing earthy hops against sweetness, and restrained fruity yeast. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on American style example. Not as big on the vanilla as I expected, but still delicious.

12 ounce can. Barely translucent dark brown color. Small creamy beige head with clinging lace. Roasted malt and cocoa aroma. Flavor is more cocoa, vanilla and boozy love juice. Espresso notes in middle. Bitter finish. Warming alcohol as well.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of beige foam that dissiaptes and leaves a ring around the glass. Good lacing throughout. Dark roasted coffee and chocolate malt aromas with some faint bitter aromas. Dark prune and blueberry with bitter coffee and dark malt flavors. Don't really get any vanilla at all...maybe some vanilla pod astringency. Bitter and roasty finish with some lingering alcohol.

Pretty darn drinkable imperial porter, heavy on bitter chocolate and roasted malt, with an indulgent dose of vanilla on the back end padding out the lingering espresso bitterness. Notes of cherry, currant, anise, and char mesh with slight bursts of brown sugar and tobacco. Finishes dry and easy. No trace of the 10% ABV, while the pour comes out a dark brown with red edges and spotty lace. Good pint.
