2005, tap at Cafe Ledig Erf: Nice balance, bit more spicy, which gives the beer more body. Original: Dark color, medium head. Aroma of roasted malt, some caramel. Heavy roasted malty taste, bit sweet. Not too complex, but full bodied.

Bottle. Chocolate/coffee aroma. Reddish-brown clear color - small head. Sweet chocolate malt flavor with a very nice coffee finish - not as astringent as I’ve found in many doppelbocks. An excellent beer for the style but may not be stronger enough for fans of the style.

A beautiful mahogany, very smooth doppelbock that boasts a very complex aroma with figs, fruitcake, dark malt, molasses, port, and a whiff of smoke on the palate.

Superb red-brown, clear beer; thick luxurious creamy head. Bready nose, truly great and appetising. Malts - in a superior way, and caramel. Sweetish & roasted taste, like mulled beer, caramelised in a short, hot way. Retronasal there are some good German hops. Just a bit thin mouthfeel, certainly for a Doppelbock. All the same, if this beer isn't nourishing, nothing is. This is a great, because dangeroulsy drinkable Doppelbock. Love it.

Dark reddish-brown colour and thin tanned head. Sweet fruity malt aroma, slightly alcoholic. Strong sweet and malty taste, like stronger version of Kozel Cerny. Quick alcoholic finish. (7/4/7/3/15 3.6)
Re-rated, bottled (BB 09/2004)
Dark red, off-white small head. Burned malt and fruits in the nose. Sweet, roasted, delicious balanced palate. Sweetness in aftertaste. (7/4/7/4/15 3.7)

(500 ml bottle). Another traditional Kloster Dunkler Doppelbock, ABV is 7%. Colour is dark brown to ruby, good light tan head. Fine aroma of oak, coffee and cigar box. Heavily roasted to burnt malty flavour, alcohol shines through. Roast bitterness in the aftertaste. Not as good as the Weltenburger Kloster Asam, but still good.
