Malty aroma of rich molasses with walnuts also present. Brown with a medium tan head, no lacing. Appropriate body. It tastes mainly of sweet molasses with walnut and wood notes preventing it from becoming too sweet. Alcohol is noticeable but downplayed a bit. A faint light woodiness lingers. Works well with a Virginia ham or a well seasoned tenderloin.

I am surprised that I haven’t rated this yet. 500 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a deep ruby red color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet malts, toffee, raisins, light anise. Taste is anise, alcohol, toffee, dark fruits including primarily raisin. Full bodied with significant alcohol warmth. Very tasty. Good doppelbock.

Bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours a dark orange/copper/amber. With a beige head. Aroma is a veggie dark malt. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is all over the place. Roasted caramel. Herb. Hop. Treacle. Anise. God knows what. Heavy duty but not sticky sweetness. There’s a lot of dark fruit. Dang good beer. Waited years for this, and it was worth it.

tap at Trappeze in Athens. Pours amber with thin head. Aroma is very malty and chocolate and fruity.. Taste, lots of malts with a thick mouthfeel that has plenty of caramel - molasses. Beer is smooth with an almost sweet honeyish, dark fruity feel on the palate. Finish is dry and hoppy. There is also a very faint trace of smoke.

Tap @ BBF ’08. Dark brown beer, beige head. Aroma of burnt malts, caramel, a bit of rye. Flavour is sweet, malty, deep roasted malts, some coffee indeed, surprisingly spicy finish. Fullbodied. Not an average bock.

Big malt aroma, lots of caramel, raisins, figs. Great rich flavor, thick and tasty but with an alcohol-strong, drying finish that balances it well. A great Doppelbock; one of the best.

RB DE#1000: 50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a lacing tan head. Spiced and roasted malt aroma, mild fruity touch. Sweet and solid caramel malt in the first sip, followed by a more roasted malt and breadish note. Lingering dark fruity and breadish finish.

500ml bottle from mcbackcus and Knightly Spirits; Nose is caramel, toffee, and raisins; clear rusty brown with a small beige head; flavor is sweet, candied raisins, caramel, and a bit of hop bitterness. Finish is sweet and caramelly with a hint of bitterness at the very end.

Draught at Schlosshotel Linderhof, 5 minutes walk from Ludwig’s II castle Linderhof.
Clear amber coloured, small beige head, malty nose. Malty, toffee, dark fruits and chocolate aroma with notes of licorice, roasted coffee and smoke. Quite oily, bitter finish and long-lasting bitter aftertaste. 9% is well hidden.

The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Fine foam for a doppelbock. Not too malty, but a little bit fruity. Really good!
