Bottled. Copper colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is wood, some whisky, toffee, alcohol and mild spices with some sweet fruity and zesty tones too. Flavour is zesty, some sweet malts, mild wood, some spiciness and a wee bit of alcohol to it.

Bottled on 17/06/2019, BB 16/06/2024, Lot 20190010, 330ml bottle
APPEARANCE: deep dark caramel color, mahogany notes, small off white head with big fluffy bubbles on the side of the glass, mild chill haze
AROMA: loads of bourbon on the nose, notes of varnish, glue, mild vegetables - cabbage and very mild balsamic vinegar on the edges, wet bourbon barrel, wood, tannins, notes of spicy alcohol but not too sharp or hot; moderate to medium sweetness of melting brown sugar, caramel, raisins soaked in bourbon, plum skin, soft plum brandy, sweet bread/biscuit, very mild dry herbs and earth on the edges, very subtle walnut skin,
TASTE: soft carbonation, slightly oily and silky mouthfeel, medium body; very barrel forward on the palate with clear notes of charred wood, light bourbon, tannins, a bit savory and smoky, impressions of soy sauce on the edges; soft citrus tartness in the middle with light caramel sweetness and raisins; more tannic (light) than hop bitterness, fairly dry finish with lingering tannic bitterness and charred wood/oak, subtle hints of walnuts; not boozy but it's slightly hard to drink due to the lack of malt sweetness which could have counterbalance prominent barrel character
OVERALL: very quirky outcome, there is not much left from the base DIPA; strong Maker's Mark barrel character; not bad at all but takes a few minutes to adjust the palate and mind to appreciate what the brewers want to say; for comparison, Old Fashioned Bourbon BA DIPA from Tempest is world class example to what we have here;

Donkerbruin bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is licht zoet en vol bourbon met iets van pruimen en wat hars. Voor mij echt één van de mindere bieren van deze brouwer omdat de bourbon veel te veel overheerst.

Alkoholowe, fuzlowe, cierpkie, o dziwojakies bandazowe nuty. Niedobre. Choc w tle tez sa zalety, spoko cialo, jakies zbozowo-gryczane nuty. Faktycznie ciut goryczki jest. Ale calosc imho nieporozumienie.

30 November 2018. Billie's Craft Beer Fest. Cheers to Anke, tderoeck & 77ships! 2013 edition; 9.5% according to the booklet. Hazy amber with a lasting, thin, frothy, off-white head; some lacing. Inviting aroma of plum, pear syrup, caramel, candied orange & mango, red apple, wood, bourbon, vanilla. Taste is medium malty sweet, rich in fruitiness, notes of red apple, plum & pear; making way for a light hoppy bitterness that has orange peel, faintly grassy with a woody touch & some subtle lemon in the back. A faint hint of cinnamon-like spiciness peeps through before finishing dryish, with earthy & herbal hops, malty too, lingering plum, dough & wood, warming bourbon alcohol. Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Hardly a DIPA anymore, more like a DIPA on malty steroids and 'maderised', but what an end result. I'd say an extra point for originality.
