Pinot Barrel Four was our second batch. We took the recipe for the Four and sent the beer into some oak barrels graciously donated by La Bete winery of McMinnville, topping them up with a small amount of Oregon cherry puree along with lactobacillus and brettanomyces claussenii to encourage more acidity and aromatic complexity in the finished beer. Half of the batch was blended and kegged and can be found at a few specialty bars while the remaining half is still maturing in the barrels and will likely be bottled at some point towards the end of 2009.

From tap at Upright, Portland. Aroma is oak, bretty funk, tart fruits, apricot, very dry, hint of vanilla, red fruits. Light sweet and above moderate sour with a very dry finish. Body is medium. Very oaky and complex, delicious.

On tap at Atomic Liquors. Pours a clear straw yellow with a gold hue and a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a combination of tart and sweet cherries with with oak and light funk supporting. Flavor has dry tart cherry with a good amount of funk and light oak supporting.

On tap at Alibi Room during Oregon Breweries Tap Takeover. Pours a hazy golden rose-ish with a rose head. Aroma is flowers, berries, barrel notes. Taste is the same. Low to moderate acidity. Very refreshing. Nice.

On tap at OIBF’16. Booklet said it was 4Play/Rose Blend, but that seems near impossible reading that description (55 bottles). Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma is very funky, tart, lemons, fruity, almost Cantillon-like, light floral. Flavour is floral, fruity, funky, sour, lemons. Light bodied. Good.

Draft at Oedipus International Beer Festival. Near clear golden orange with a white head. Aroma is funky, barnyard, citrus and tart light fruits. Flavour is moderate sour. Light to light medium bodied with soft carbonation.
