Today the beers of the Herkenrode abbey are the only beers created at an all-female abbey and still available today. Vesper is made using the original medieval recipes of the monastery. The beer is filtered which gives it a nice clear color.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Tuulensuu, 20251110) The beer poured deep golden and lightly hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had grass, honey, fruitiness and spicy yeast. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, honey, grain, fruitiness, spicy yeast and bitterness. Aftertaste had spicy yeast, fruitiness, lightly metal and medium bitterness. A mostly tasty brew despite the metal notes in the taste.

Gylden brun klar med hvitt skum. Lukter karamell og belgisk gjær. Smaker karamell, alkohol og gjær. Middels lang.

Bottle from HoTM. It pours clear golden - blonde with a decent fluffy white head. The aroma is fragrant, warming spice, gingersnaps, dill clove, boiled sweets, sponge cake, brioche, hay and nutty cereal. The taste is crisp, dry, snappy, prickly, bitter - sweet character, candied citrus peel, pear drops, ripe melon, gooseberry, banana split, toffee and warming booze to balance out the sweetness. Dry and warming through the finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Comes together well. A good example of the style.

Appearance: Fogged gold with a tall white frothy head of perfect retention. Aroma and taste: Solip pale malt, candiy, apples & pears, warming alcohol, grassy hop. Light sweet & bitter. Mouth feel: Medium plus body, average carbonation. Summary: Better than expected.
