Draught at HopCat, RBSG 2010. Aroma and flavors of fruit, mostly plums and raisins, chocolate, port, along side the bourbon and caramel. Alcohol noticeable. Lots of plum and raisin. Decent, but weird for a dubbel to me.

On tap during RBSG at Hopcat. Poured a near black with a near brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was very fruit forward with light fruits such as apples present with bourbon and caramel as well. Flavor started with some light fruits with bourbon. The bourbon grows as does a caramel and sweet grain note.

Served on draft at Hopcat in Grand Rapids and shared by someone. Pours a dark brown color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of plum, whisky, toffee and apple. The taste is toffee, bourbon, light fruity notes and a faint bit of chocolate. Medium bodied. Nice.

Draft @ FoBAB 2009, Chicago, IL. Pours a dark brown amber almost black color with a small off-white head. Has a strong malty bourbon and vanilla aroma. Has a sweetish malty caramel and dark fruit flavor with hints of vanilla and bourbon. Has a slightly sweetish malty spicy dark fruit finish with vanilla and bourbon in the aftertaste.

On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Deep, murky brown body, tight tan head. Nose of potent bourbon and buttery oak with chocolate, plum, pear and a hint of pickle. Bourbon-dominated body, hot, with vanilla and tannic oak in addition to chocolate, prune, licorice, and spices from the base beer. The barrel aging shifted the emphasis of this beer to the bourbon and oak, with mixed results; some of the subtleties of the beer were lost to the tannic booziness.

Sample at the Bell’s/Lebowski Dude-A-Thon at Studio 35 on 01/17/10. The beer is a muddy dark brown color with a thin tan head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing. Tart fruit, bourbon and dark malt in the nose. Rich body with flavors of ripe fruit, oaky bourbon, malt and yeast. The finish is vanilla and oak with a fruity aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
