Fig aroma. Copper pour, thin yellowish head. Very metallic flavor of cherry and caramel malt. Ends with a generic bitterness. Flavorful, but not pleasant. There’s little Belgian about it. More like a bad amber.

12 oz bottle from Beastiefan2K; Nose of caramel, yeast, and light vanilla; orange with a medium beige head; flavor has lightly sweet caramel, hop bitterness, and peppery spices; Belgian style attributes, but not a great combination.

Clear copper beer with a short-lived head - light belgian fruitiness in the aroma, with notes of apricot and orange peel, mineral and metallic smells underneath - light grainy flavors and moderate orange peel and coriander - some qualities that taste somewhat phenolic, but like mj notes, they seem artificial and "wrong" - mineral flavors and some metallic notes that remind me of sucking on a penny - this beer would taste a lot better if it weren’t for those Saranac imperfections.

2007 bottle...amber with fluffy beige head...lacing is pretty and dainty...smells like cloves, malts and sweet and sour cherries...a very clean scent overall...(granny smith apples)...body has a creaminess to it with a sharp metallic bite...its like cloves were tainted with metal shavings...after the first few sips, the aroma takes on a metal quality as well...Saranac, you disappoint me. Has your mountain water become tainted over the years?

Pours dark with no bubbles into the steeler stein. Darker than I expected. Looks just like flying dog old scratch without a haze, slightly fruity aroma too. Has a good prickle chime on the tongue which is similar to Leffe. Finish is a a little hoppy or malty and it lasts. Label says it’s brewed in the trappist’s tradition.

Poured initially a bright and clear amber, on the dark side with a brown tinge to it. Barely any head and effervescence a bad sign. I poured the yeast so the clarity gave way to a medium haziness. Initial yeasty aroma notes at bread dough, and a touch of green apple (part of the bread dough component). Medium palate, semi-sweet up front but finishes empty and thin, with a lingering spicy hop. Lingers somewhere between abbey dubbel and pale ale. Light astringency in the finish also, which is somewhat grainy/cereal-like. A fair beer, that is all.

this is a good beer if you are looking for a Belgian Lite. It has many of the flavors of a belgian but much weaker. For example, pours with almost no head. The color is like a cloudy amber. One could see through the beer, never a good sign for anything with the word belgian on it. I got it in a winter mix pack, which contains a few other good beers (caramel porter). So, its up to you if you want to get the box.

12oz bottle-pours a light tan head. Hazy dark gold color. Aroma is spices, wheat. Taste is spices, wheat, too much spices.

Bottle, 12 bottle winter pack. Tasted a lot like a regular belgian ale. Like I’ve said before, I’m not a huge fan of these kinds of ale, so I didn’t like it that much.

Orange color with a somewhat frothy white head and a relatively malty aroma. lightly sweet taste even if a little overly spiced.
