Our Belgian-style Tripel ale, Abbey Triple remains true to its origins and a classic example of the beer style. Brewed using a Belgian Trappist tripel yeast culture, the finest imported pale barley, Belgian aromatic malt and oats, this flavorful golden ale has a fruity bouquet, refined taste and pleasingly dry finish.

16 ounce bottle into chalice, bottled on 1/28/2011. Pours hazy deep orange amber color with a fairly dense 1 finger off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Decent spotty lacing clings to the glass, with a fair amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of apple, grape, banana, caramel, candi sugar, clove, pepper, herbal, bread, honey, and spicy yeast esters. Pretty nice aromas with good balance, strength, and complexity; they were slightly offensive at first but got a lot better as it warmed up. Taste of pear, apple, banana, caramel, candi sugar, honey, herbal, clove, bread, and light spicy yeast. Lingering notes of light fruits, caramel, candi sugar, honey, herbal, clove, and light yeast spiciness on the finish for a bit. Pretty good complexity and balance of flavors; with no cloying sweetness at all surprisingly. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly slick and creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice Tripel with a pretty unique flavor profile. It could use some more carbonation and spiciness to balance out the malty fruitiness; but overall it is still quite enjoyable and easy to drink.

12 ounce bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop. Pours a very slightly hazy amber color with a medium sized creamy off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma of caramel, bread, apple and spice. The taste is bread, caramel, apples, spice, toasted notes, stone fruits, very faint bitterness. Medium-full bodied.

Sampled from the bottle at the Mundelin beer fest. Pours a clear golden amber with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is sweet with grains and cereal but is backed by a bit of light and deep fruit. Flavor has some earthy sweet grains that are slightly syrupy with a bit of light fruit underlying.

Looks like a true beldgy trippel from the bottle, but inside its almost like your normal american wanna-B; nastie nellie unless you like alky in your face and I know some of you do. Very little co2, if any.

A golden ale with a thin white head. In aroma, a sweet candy sugar with nail polish notes, papaya, sweet citrus, a bit cloying. In mouth, a sweet oily orange malt, curacao, a bit cloying, cloves, not bad. Bottle at Istmus Beer and Cheese Fest, Jan 21 2012.

I have not been much of a fan of this brewer in general but this one impressed. +++ Sampled from a 16 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark amber color with a medium sized foamy orange-white head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was strong table sugar and strong candied golden fruits and bread. The flavor was tart golden fruits with notes of sugar, sourdough bread and a faint herbal undertone. The finish was long sugar and golden fruits. Fairly full bodied and the alcohol was very well hidden. Exceptional.

Bottle. Lemon, rock candy, and light malt aroma. Clear amber color with large head. Very sweet lemon and stale barley malt flavor. Okay - probably a bit past it’s prime.

Purchased at Breeze Thru Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed on a Tuesday night still hurting from my half marathon this past weekend. Appearance a cloudy gold with a very slight ruby hue, little carbonation bubbles ferociously rising to the top, with a thin white head around the rim. Aroma of pepper & spices (are those italian spices? I’m getting oregano...), a slight hint of banana, Belgian yeast, very very unique. Taste for me is actually pretty good, definitely unique for the style as it has a crisp, malty finish that’s almost bread-like, and I’ve never tasted that for the style. Up front you get banana and clove notes, the spices come out towards the middle, and at the end it finishes crisp. I’m pretty happy to have tried this, unique but for me it’s pretty good.

16 oz. bottle, $2 at Ray’s. Pours pale malts, a bit of copper in the center of the glass, and a steady stream of bubbles that just breaks at the surface. Smell is malty sweet, and just a little bit sweaty. Hints of sour fruit in the rear of the nose. Taste is loaded with tripel sweetness. Sweaty impression in the mouth, too. Still, the malt feels light, except for a thread of alcohol. Hints of orange peel and coriander.

Small goblet draft, maybe 10 oz at The Wicked Hop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pour is a hazed golden orange, with not much head - what is present is white. Aroma is straw along with a honey, syrupy sweetness. Taste is the syrupy sweetness, along with pretty clove, and light phenols. Palate is medium bodied, lowish carbonation and a mild alcohol burn to the finish. Decent enough Tripel.
