Earl (1911-1985) was our grandfather’s brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Stout is crafted from American malted barley, Flaked Oats, English roasted malts, American hops, Organic Guatemalan Coffee, our ale yeast, and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. A silhouette of coffee and malt – an embodiment of complexity and drinkability, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Earl.

On tap at Blackback Pub in Waterbury, VT.
Poured into a tulip.
Appearance: dark brown close to black color with a half a finger of cream colored white frothy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: sweet biscuity to subtle earthy tones and black coffee with some molasses and a touch of mineral-ish sort of quality in there
Flavor: meshes the prior noted aromas to a fine roasty to sweet quality initially then a slight bitter note underneath rising for balance; finishes with a touch of dryness and a light coffee sweetness
Texture: medium bodied; slightly sessionable; very smooth along the tongue with nothing distracting; good carb level
Overall: a wonderful oatmeal stout I am so happy to have finally have and would very much welcome again!

Can (4/22/25) from trade with ClarkVV--thanks, Clark! Opaque, dark brown, nice sparkle, thin head with good retention and rings of lacing. Aroma is strong earthy malts/peat, faint coffee, strong molasses. Taste is strong molasses, anise, chocolate, mild coffee with char, oats. Smooth, silky texture, soft carbonation and bittersweet finish as taste. Lovely, complex base stout outside of the addition of coffee. Silky smooth. Very nice.

Strong coffee, chocolate, smooth velvet. Really ace. Pit stop after purchasing a couple of hockey sticks 💸💸💸

Black pour with a full beautiful dark brown head. The aroma is intoxicating. Amazing notes of dark, roasted malt, cocoa, and loads of espresso. Some light soy, some smoke, and burnt brown sugar. The body is silky and luscious, the carb is soft and luxurious. The finish is medium bitter, loads of bitter espresso. Sweet and bitter cocoa, and touches of warming alcohol. Incredible stout. World class.

Burk från HF. Mörk brunsvart med krämig beigebrun krona. Rejäl kaffeton i doften. Doftar och smakar av kaffe, toffee och choklad med nötiga toner.

Pours a near black from a can. Why is no one else (hyperbole) noting the smokiness of the malts? This is a smoked malt stout, a nice hickory smoke aroma, smoky taste followed by some coffee, big roasty malts throughout. Pretty good beer.
