We love beasts of lore. Unicorns, Dragons, and untold combinations therein. When it came time to name our epic Russian Imperial Stout, it only made sense for an epic fantasy beast to become the namesake. Thus was born the Blaecorn Unidragon: part Black Unicorn, part Soul Dragon, and the ultimate mythical beast. This rich and complex brew was designed to improve with age, with aggressive hops and an intense dark malt bill that fill this Russian Imperial Stout with intense flavors and a full body.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 5/6/2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, smoke, coffee, light char, toast, floral, grass, light pine, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and compexity of dark/roasted malt notes with a fair amount of hop presence; and great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, smoke, light char, toast, floral, light pine, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roasted/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, smoke, light char, toast, floral, light pine, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and and balance of dark/roasted malt and moderate hop flavors; with a nice malt/hop balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and moderately chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome Russian imperial stout. All around great complexity, balance, and robustness of dark/roasted malt and moderate hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

650ml bottle. Pitch black colour with small to average, creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Dark malty aroma has notes of dark bread, a grainy touch, some chocolate, combines with bitter hop to a peppery green onion note. Taste is dry dark malty, intense, minimally biting, bitter hoppy overtones, background-ish subtle sweetness, hints of chocolate and treacle; dry, minimally roasty dark malzy finish, some warming alcohol as well. Immense and intense, but not really balanced and "catchy".

Bottle, 22oz. A more or less black one, topped by a dense, finger-thick beige head. The aroma is very smooth, with roasted malts and coffee, chocolate, some dried fruit hints, licorice and some nutty hints. The flavor has some sweetness, with licorice, coffee and chocolate. Quite roasted, but far from extreme. Full body, extremely soft and silky, with some alcohol warmth. Lasting sweet and dark finish. Perhaps a bit too warming this one, but definitely nice anyway. And dangerously easy drinkable. Well worth a revisit if I get the chance some day. 130810

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with medium tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, licorice, pumpernickel, fruity hops and roasted malt. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter with notes of coffee, chocolate, toast and citrus. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Quite nice, well hopped. Reminds me of many danish imperial stouts.

Pours black with a large, lasting tan head.Nose shows heavy roast, some sweet bready malt, a little roasted coffee and some nutty malt.Similar flavours. Heavy roasted malt balanced by some sweeter bready malt, peat and caramel. Some piny and grapefruit-like hops and a bit of booze in the finish.Could use a thicker body.

Bottle. Extremely deep, marginally translucent garnet body, thin to medium light brown head. Roasty, sweet nose with coffee bean and chocolate; ashy. Rich, sweet body, with nostril-warming alcohol. Dense and chewy with coffee bean, chocolate, and dark fruits. Slick and rich.

Bomber from Country Club Liquors. Nose is chocolate with smaller coffee and roasted notes along with a tiny hint of vanilla. Black with a medium cinnamon colored head. Flavor is chocolate, light sweetness, a hint of background bitter, and a peppery note. Quite good impy.

650 ml bottle from HWC. Pours a jet black color with a small beige head. A big nose of dark chocolate, cocoa and fruit. The flavor is very good: roasted malts, bitter hops, chocolates, milk, cocoa, prunes. Very good. Warm and substantial but not hot.
