FUYU (meaning “Winter” in Japanese). The first of our winter warmers series. Rich malt sweetness but still relatively dry for the style. Story telling’ hoppiness that kicks at first sight but ends up balancing your whole drinking experience. Robust but you’ll likely go on ordering a second glass!

Tasting at Matt's, can
Dark amber colour. Soup of malt, vegetables, caramel, with strong alcohol.
Strong beer, but this is not a good Barley Wine.

Not as expected, kinda wort with some toffee. Cloudy copper with a small white head. Much like the nose and quite thin.

355mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is quite herbal, with loads of boiled vegetables, grassy notes, and bready malt. Flavour is revolting, with lots of boiled vegetables, abrasive bitterness, and more vegetables. Ugh, this cannot be as intended. Terrible.

A dark reddish brown barley wine with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with loads of resinous floral hops, treacle, light butterscotch, very nice. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with vinous notes, treacle, resinous and piney hops, alcohol warmth, very nice and rich. Can from brewery, from Ian Guenard.
