Oaxaca Choca (pronounced: WA-HA-KA CHA-KA) is our Imperial Mexican Chocolate Stout brewed with vanilla, cinnamon, chili peppers & cocoa. This ridiculously tasty winter warmer sips like a cup of Mexican Hot Cocoa with just enough spice to balance the sweetness.

Can, at the March 2025 DCBeer share. Poured a nearly pitch black color with a small light tan head. Aroma was big chocolate, vanilla. Very light spices. Flavor was similar, vanilla, chocolate with some chili peppers. Mexican spice cinnamon and a white peppery note. Not spicy, but definitely you get a lot of the cinnamon heat.

4 oz draft. Mild chocolate and mild chili peppers. Flavor is pretty balanced mild a soft pepper heat after the chocolate, ash, and toffee. Nice stout!

Super deep dark brown coloured body with a thickish, three centimetre tall, velvety smooth rich brown coloured head that fades slowly and is only one centimetre or so at first sip. Aroma of molasses, spice, nutmeg, canella, star anise, roasted malt, oatmeal, vanilla and a bunch of alcohol and chocolate here. Full-bodied; Super rich chocolate and earthiness at first with a big roasted malt, oatmeal and nutty flavour that brings out some of the spices and a kick of the vanilla, lactose and creaminess. Aftertaste shows a lot more depth with some spice aspects, including chiles, but mainly the canella, allspice and anise push through the rich malts and malty flavours and while there is still the sweetness here from the molasses and caramel, the alcohol warmth is pungent here, as expected. Overall, a pretty nice, full-flavoured, complex, pungent and deeply spiced beer that hits the right notes at the right time - this will mellow out and smooth over time and I can imagine that about three years from now, this one would be sublime! Great to sample fairly fresh and I wish I had more for later, this is a rare Imperial Stout that i'm drinking fresh! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia in October 2020 for US$2,99 and sampled at my house here in Washington on 14-August-2021.

On tap at Local Republic. Pours black, with a medium, frothy, tan head. The nose is milk chocolate, cinnamon, light ancho chilies, and oak. Sweet and syrupy, with a bit of roasty bitterness. Well made, delicious, and nicely balanced spice.

Fucked up the Spanish, (Oaxaca Choco) but a pretty decent all over beer. They pulled off the Mexican hot chocolate. Chile and cacao. Big roast. A hint of coffee. Bitter spicy end. Some musk and coconut. Black pour with good head and lacing. Can.
