Barrel & Bean starts its life as our Tripel—a Belgian-style golden ale. We age that beer in bourbon barrels for just shy of two months, before blending it with cold-brewed coffee from Speckled Ax, a Maine coffee roaster. The sun-dried Ethiopian beans in the coffee are known for their stone fruit and dark berry flavors. The finished beer features rich notes of caramel, bourbon, and coffee.

Bottle at Justicna tasting. Malty aroma and taste, coffee, roastyness, light caramel notes, medium bitter, light sweet. Medium to full body, malty roasty coffeeish bitter sweer finish. Good.

Lovely tasty beer. Hazed deep golden in the glass and a fine head. Pleasant intensity in the aroma. Mellow sweetness and a fine carbonation level. Easy to drink. Fruity, toffee, coffee, mild citric and some yeast in the flavor. [Bottle from Ölstudion Nordstan in Gothenburg, Sweden]

Bottle at home, picked up from CW online a few years back I reckon, 07/09/24. Moderately hazed orange golden topped with a lasting just off white head. Nose is caramel, stewed fruits, herb, light coffee bean, honey drizzle, grains. Taste comprises stewed fruits, yeast esters, modest coffee, sugars, prunes, caramel, candied fruit rinds. Full bodied, fine carbonation, with a mellow kiss of alcohol. Decent Tripel, coffee is subtle and doesn't take over.

Sample (thanks omhper!). Honeyish golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is coffee, toast, some floral and fruity hops with mild vanilla and some spiciness. Flavour is following the same pattern, but also has a slight burning alcohol edge to it.

Gott

It’s a pretty good Belgian tripel style beer but the main coffee component has pretty much vanished. Aroma is blonde malt and some caramel and perhaps the barest hint of coffee. Flavor is like nose, a tiny bit more coffee coming through along with some medicinal qualities but it’s still pretty good beer overall. Good carbonation and body, nice finish.

I’m guessing this is more or less a coffee Curieux? Tasty, with a gentle, honey-and-fruit-laced front, followed by a hit of java acidity, then heads into a bourbon and oak finish with notes of roast, cocoa, vanilla, and a little apple in the fade. Tasty.
