A drinker. This Golden Ale is a quality travel companion that aims to please with subtlety and aroma pop.

Gossamer Golden Ale used to be a year-round beer for us. We’ve always pulled it back out and have made tweaks to it over the years, but it continues to be a beer crammed with little details that floats like cirrus clouds in your glass. Our ability to create body at low ABV without the weight has gotten better over the years, which really shines in 2021 Gossamer. It still hits with bready, bright melon and is your beer when the sun is up. This new label tracks very well to the beer.

Aromas are malt, straw and a bit of hops. Flavors are similar to nose, bittersweet with dank hops coming out more. Decent body and carbonation. Good beer.

Cask with Nelson Sauvin hops at Half Acre. Room temperature practically..apparently they haven’t invested in firkin jackets. Musty tropical aroma. Earthy tropical, some buttery oddness beneath. A little unrefined. Guess I’ve never had the regular Goss, so hard to fully gauge. Earthy fresh hop feel. Buttery ringwood-esque tastes detract.

Can poured into a shaker. Pours a hazy dark gold with 2 fingers thick white head. Aroma of straw and grain with a little earthy herbal hoppiness and something slightly sweet. Taste is light bitter. Earthy and herbal with grains and a little more sweetness in the finish. Light bodied with a slick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. Not my favorite beer but very drinkable.

Tap at Half Acre Tap Room, Chicago. Poured a hazy light amber with a thin white head. The aroma is weak malt. The flavour is medium bitter with a malty liqourice hoppy palate. Nothing too special for me.

16 ounce can into pint glass, no canning date. Pours lightly hazy golden straw color with a 1-2 finger foamy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Slightly foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, orange zest, pineapple, pine, wheat, bread, grass, and floral hops. Very nice and pleasant aromas with good strength, balance, and hop complexity. Taste of orange zest, grapefruit, pineapple, wheat, bready grain, light pine, citrus rind, floral, grass, and herbal earthiness. Light citrus bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, pineapple, wheat, bready grain, light pine, citrus rind, floral, grass, and herbal on the finish for a short bit. Very nice flavor balance with a good amount of hop flavors; zero cloying flavors present on the finish as expected. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol warming is pretty much invisible, with hardly anything present on the finish as expected. Overall this is a damn nice blonde ale! Very nice hoppy flavor with good malt balance; and extremely easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Galway Arms, Chicago tap ($5.50): Pours an orange/yellow colour with a white head. Aroma is citrusy hops, with some bread and grass. Taste is somewhat bitter. The citrus again makes a healthy appearance. The amlt backbone is correctly proportioned. Overall, this is a very well-balanced beer, and is something that I could probably drink all day.

Enjoyed on tap at Fountainhead in Chicago, IL two days before running in the Chicago Marathon. Really good blonde ale. Clearish yellow in appearance, aroma is of a good hop presence with light yeast. Taste is very crisp, good malt/hop balance, very refreshing.

On the bus, RBSG. Strong simcoe hoppy aroma. Minerally. Very unique, like apricots in the nose. Medium pale gold. Strong sour edge with a bit of biscuity malt and honey. Pretty bitter but not overwhelmingly so. Interesting fruit flavors, citrus and otherwise. Pretty cool and flavorful for a light beer.
