On tap in Santa Rosa. Pours a hazy reddish brown appearance with a big tan head. Toasty caramel malty nose that is awfully floral / soapy. High bitterness. Toasted grain, toffee flavor with lots of potpourri. Too soapy and bitter for my taste.

Very dark red. Sticky head. Definitely to style of a bitter. Aroma is spot on. Really nice. Great sugary caramel malt backbone. Nice aromatic bitterness and cough drop finish

On cask at Toronado San Francisco, pours a clear copper with a small bubbly beige head. Nose is traditionally English, with notes of English malt, some coppery notes, and toasted rye crusty bread. Flavour brings out a mix of English ingredients and American-heavy hopping, with notes of toasted bread, piney hops, and some metallic notes, with a considerable astringency. Extremely drinkable, despite the over-the-top hopping. More abrasive than a traditional bitter, but well-executed.

On tap at Toronado. A finger-thick off-white head sites in top of an amber body, nice curtains. The aroma is light and easy, with some fruits and some bread. There’s a pleasant and subtle bitterness in the flavor, dealing with the light malty sweetness. Some bread. Caramel hints too. Medium body, very soft. Lasting bitter finish. Certainly a nice one, maybe deserving a higher rating. 130804

On cask at the Toronado. Pours with a hazed amber-bronze body and a lasting, frothy white head with a bit of lace. Aromas are sweet, earthy, a bit spicy and bready. Flavors are bitter, spicy, a touch of diacetyl, some esters, grainy, a bit of caramel. Herbal hop profile. Minimal bubbles. Decent.

On tap@The Rake, London. A gloomy looking red tinged brown colour with a reasonable lingering tan head. Nose was sweetish with some citrusy hop and nut notes. Flavour had plenty of initial caramel and evolved into some resinous hoppage. Slight earthy quality. Ok in the bitterness department. Not the most subtle affair, but tasty enough.
