Vinter is said to be a crossover between a Strong American Amber and an Old Ale. It features generous amounts of Perle, Citra and Cascade, making it more hoppy than the beer traditionally brewed before Christmas in Norway.
The beer pairs well with heavier meat dishes, casseroles and traditional Christmas food. It is also excellent enjoyed on its own, ideally in front of the fireplace on a cold winters night.
Editor’s note: Vinter was first brewed on contract in the fall of 2013 at Lervig Aktiebryggeri in Stavanger, but moved to 7 Fjell when the brewery was up and running.

Bottle from Eataly, Genoa, Italy (I think?) consumed at home after tidy up Sunday at the end of Merton Beer Festival, Oxon, Sunday 26th February 2017 Reddy amber appearance a little bit murky. Quite a toffee forward beer, chewy, malty but yes lots of toffee. Pretty good the hoppiness breaches the big malty body, it’s not bad. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Bottled (from Vinmonopolet Kirkenes). Copper colour, big fluffy/creamy beige head. Aroma is fruity, mildly spicy, alcoholic and some sweet maltiness to it. Flavour is spices, alcohol, liquorice, and some toffeeish notes. Quite sharp flavourwise, but otherwise ok.

(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 12 Dec 2015) Dark brown colour with dense, beige head. Malty, slightly roasted nose with notes of caramel, coffee, dark chocolate and black rye bread. Malty, slightly roasted taste with caramel, chocolate, coffee, dark fruit and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body with a touch of sweetness. Quite complex, but tasty and in good balance. Nice one.
