2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.
For beer folks, Chico, CA, and New Glarus, WI, are must-see capitals on the U.S. brewing map, but getting between the two is no simple feat. There and Back is named for the planes, trains, and zeal needed to connect them. This classic English-style Bitter is a complex yet easy-drinking mix of toasty malt and a fruity, herbal hop flavor.
New Glarus is fiercely loyal to its home state, growing to one of the largest breweries in the U.S. without selling a single drop outside of the borders of Wisconsin. With those local tastes in mind, New Glarus has perfected traditional German styles and invented masterful versions of complex and intense fruit beers featuring Wisconsin-grown ingredients.

35,5 cl bottle @ tiong, packaged 22.05.2014
Aroma has gooseberry bush and caramel malt. Also cereal. Flavour has fruity hops, cereal, gooseberry bush and some grapefruit. Also some sweet caramel malt. Could be better fresh. This is over seven months old but still the hops are way more strong than in bitters usually.

Taste is bland, slightly malty and bready with some toffee, caramel, herbal hops and grass. Finish is sweetish, slightly bitter and malty with some toffee, caramel and herbal notes. Quite easy going and malty bitter.

Slightly hazy golden coloured body with a bit of a honey and orange glow and a nice, relatively fast-dying one centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of yeast, pale malt, a touch of grassy and herbal hops and a very subdued apricot smell. Light-bodied; Strong malt flavour at first with hints of tropical and citrus fruits, then follows up with a touch of bitterness and a little earth and funk on the end. Aftertaste is relatively straight forward with some grassy hop notes, touches of herbs and citrus and very little else. Overall, not a bad beer, but nothing too exciting. If you didn’t know New Glarus had a part in this (or the label didn’t say otherwise), this beer wouldn’t be rated so highly. I love NG beers just as the next person, but this is all a reputation rating here, there is nothing to see here. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Harris Teeter in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 30-July-2014 for US$22,00 for the twelve pack, sampled at home in Washington, a few blocks away on 30-October-2014.

Enjoyed on tap at Dusek's in Chicago, IL. This is fantastic. Appearance is a dark murky brown with a rich and frothy white head that laces to the glass. Aroma not too apparent, light malt. Taste is fantastic, very euro, nice bitterness with bready malt, light hop profile, very enjoyable. Best beer I've had in months.
