Big and malty flavor from aromatic dark roasted grains balanced by a subtle hint of hops. Deep color and rich caramel flavor … perfect for cold winter nights.

Bottle. Deep brown in color. Has a cola look to it. Weak head. Taste is that of toasted grains, coffee and chocolate with just a wisp of candy corn. Aroma was burnt toast, slight chocolate and coffee.

Bottle at my brother’s house. More amber than brown with a decent light tan head. More caramel than chocolate with an earthy carbonic bits. Pedestrian but serviceable.

Bottled. A brown beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and bread. The flavor is sweet with notes of bread, caramel, and some roasted malt, leading to a dry roasted finish.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/9/2014. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, grass, light molasses/dark fruit, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, grass, light molasses/dark fruit and herbal/roasted earthiness. Good amount of herbal hop/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and earthy hops flavors; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and fairly creamy/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a nice porter style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to drink for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Reviewed from notes.
Into a pint glass, I poured this.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipates at a decent pace. There was no lacing observed anywhere on the sides of the glass.
The smell had some light dark roasted chocolates pervading through a rich bitter coffee aroma.
The taste was basically the same with no aftertaste and a quick dry coffee-like finish.
On the palate, it sat a diligent medium on the body. There was a complete assurance on my part how this beer just stayed the same all the way through. I liked that. Sessionability - hmmm....well, perhaps, I could sense that there was a decent sessionable quality to this beer. The carbonation seemed fitting for the style and there was nothing obscure to me.
Overall, this is not a bad American Porter, perhaps not one to really go nuts about, but worthy of throwing back if one ever sees it.
